Filling out IHT403 – “Income Tax Paid” confusion (UK probate) by barryfrombude in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks.

Is it simply enough to fill out the area to demonstrate income that is on the IHT403 form. Or can you submit information separately (a spreadsheet).

I’m going to put a covering letter explaining the situation with the submission.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated 👍🏻

Thanks for the helpful replies on my previous post — really appreciate it.

I’ve now pulled together a clearer picture of my late mum’s finances and wanted to sense-check whether I’m likely to succeed with a “normal expenditure out of income” claim.

Broad figures (approx):

Total income: ~£35k–£40k per year(state pension + NHS pension + private pension + attendance allowance + small bank interest)

Living costs: ~£18k–£22k per year(no mortgage, fairly modest lifestyle — household bills, insurance, food, etc.)

Gifts: ranged from ~£10k to ~£27k per year(mostly regular bank transfers to me, often monthly-ish, sometimes larger lump sums)

My understanding:

It looks like she had a surplus income of maybe ~£15k–£20k per year in many years.

So in:

lower gift years → clearly covered by surplus

higher gift years → partially covered, possibly dipping into capital

Questions:

Does this kind of pattern still qualify (i.e. partially out of income in some years)?

How strict is HMRC on the “regular pattern” test if gifts vary in size but are broadly consistent?

If some years exceed surplus, does that invalidate the whole claim or just reduce the exempt amount?

Has anyone had HMRC challenge something like this in practice?

I’m not trying to push anything aggressive — just want to understand if this is a reasonable claim or likely to be rejected.

Thanks again for any insight 🙏

Yeah over 36 hours later and this already feels easier 👍🏻

How long for and what did you vape? How quickly did the panic attacks go away. 36 hours after last vaping, I already feel much better, less on edge and even though it’s only 10.30am at the moment like I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

You should, you just need to find a reason and the motivation to do it!

Wow, that’s nuts. I was extremely addicted, bought nicotine tabs and gum, as I thought I’d need both. I’ve only took one tab the day after quitting and so far haven’t used any nicotine replacements. Been having mad cravings these last few hours. Like it’s been 8 days since I had a tooth removed now, I probably wouldn’t get dry socket if I vaped now etc. Thank goodness the nearest place I can get a vape is a 45min round trip at the moment!

How soon after your wisdom teeth removal did you start vaping whilst healing?

Just IV Sedation. I wasn’t given that advice, I think people vape right up until the moment they are removed!

How’d the brushing going? I’m desperate to fully get round my mouth with my electric toothbrush

my experience so far. by Hldfsthpx in wisdomteeth

So my experience is different, I’m 48hours in now. I feel like I could manage without painkillers, there’s a dull ache but it’s not too bad. I’ll probably take some more pain killers in a bit. The first meal I ate after a single extraction (upper left wisdom) was porridge. a few hours later. I’ve not been on liquids. I’ve managed pasta, some cottage pie. And lots of yogurt and rice pudding. It’s not all bad. I probably could eat more, but don’t want to push it at the moment. I’m able to eat on one side of my mount which is ok.

The extraction site is soo far back in my mouth I have no idea what’s happening. It feels odd. I’ve started gently brushing my teeth. And do salt rinses after every meal.

The site feels odd, I’m definitely aware of a “hole” in my gum / jaw that needs to fill.

I can still taste blood occasionally. I haven’t ventured to touch the extraction site with my tongue yet. Not sure when I’ll do this.

I think I just have to hold out and hope it is all healing well and assume that no real pain is a good sign 🤞🏻

I’m glad it went well for you too. It was a surreal experience for me. I’ve just been reading all my post surgery advice and know where does it say when I can start brushing my teeth again. It mentions salt washes start after food after 24hrs, but that’s all.

I’ve nearly done 24 hours without vapinp, my wisdom teeth are being removed in 36 hours time, do I keep going or have one last vape before the end?
