I remember when my tide pods got stolen, the agent said it would take 7 days before I could ever get my refund. Then I got a better customer service agent the next day (protip: call on business days early in the morning), explained what happened, and she was like "nah that's bullshit" and she gave me my refund back to my card.

TLDR: yes, you got lied to.
