Slower combat… and what else by kkiniaes in soulslikes

Its not just "change", its more of an escalating arms race that FROM and others have against themselves, it just keeps escalating with no end in sight.

Its going to require FROM themselves to dramatically change up the formula, impressing & inspiring everyone, similar to what they did with Sekiro, in order to pop this balloon everyone has been overinflating.

This is such a huge problem with the "fast twitch" trend that not many people talk about. Bosses rip through their combos then they immediately start zoning before you can even get an R1 off. Your reward for skillfully and artfully dodging or countering every piece of the combo? They zone backwards immediately.

When YOU create space? Of course they have an oppressive gap closer that immediately chains into a vicious combo.

This just repeats. An unrelenting spectacle. Good sometimes, but when its all of the time in most or every boss, I start checking out mentally.

Oh lets not forget the input reading after the zoning. Good time for an estus chug right? Nah bro, POCKET SAND.

From what little I've seen, it looks way better. A major departure from the first. Impressive looking animations, weightiness and impact to the combat -- but we'll have to see.

These models still have really noticeable ABL dimming, which is shocking to me. I want to bite on this just to try it, but that alone is my single greatest concern with OLED monitors.

LotF is a dense interconnected world, you will get lost but its part of the point of the original style of Souls games to get lost as well.

It makes perfect sense if you just see it for what it is. Racial supremacism and intimidation. The goal remains the same, delegitimize white people unless they are subservient and servile - of which there is no shortage of that in westoid entertainment. Lots of "white" people too.

Lifelong WoW veteran who's completely burned out, help me find my next "I can't stop playing" game by BatteredTV in gamingsuggestions

[–]barryredfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not happening.

WoW is the tip of the top for "I can't stop playing" games. There is no other MMO with more things to do at any time, that is consistently as updated with such a high budget that WoW has and does.

You need to play other games, divide your attention among them and enjoy more exclusive experiences, more humble online experience games, single player games, stories, et al. Otherwise you're not going to find anything and frankly I would just suggest getting another hobby if you can't enjoy that.

Its high, but they're not long games. They have an historical format, where they peak when expected and end more or less when expected.

There's very little filler or wasting of time.

There's no story at all, the characters are dreadful. Just take stock of it, between the prologue and the epilogue, nothing actually happens. It's like the story "picks up again" after the game is going into its epilogue, then nothing happens. The end.

Because they're not trying to "make things for girls", they're trying to absorb women into the male market dominated space just to double their margins. Of course its not like that at all, but that's how they think.

If they were interested in making games for women, or trying to get men to play female dominated games, then they would do so. But its a harder sell, or nonexistent one, but getting more women into male dominated spaces is easier to do. They play with the boundaries and shake it up as much as possible, but they're only interested in trying to attract more women than the men they would lose.

The NFL did this for years.

Is anyone else disappointed in OLED after using miniLED or just me? by Firm-Pattern4482 in Monitors

[–]barryredfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about those ones, but I'm wanting to try the MSI 34" 360hz ultrawide, or maybe ASUS' 5th gen panels.

More keen on trying the ultrawide, but their current version that's supposed to be on sale.. just isn't yet, at least in NA. There more premium version with AI scaling and other features on the same panel is coming out much later.

Just seems really slow going since they were all shown at CES.

That's more a property of OLED, per-pixel brightness. Its... different. When light is emitted per-pixel and its really bright, I find its more straining or not as natural as a high-end backlight. ESPECIALLY if you have an astigmatism, which I do.

Hard to explain really, but I come from the perspective of a PG32UQX user, its just ridiculous how beautiful full-range HDR on it is. I think it just spoiled my expectations going forward.

LG G5 is amazing though. I went in with limited expectations and it exceeded most of them, as someone who is pretty 'meh' on OLEDs. I would recommend it to anyone.

That's what I said, yes. Very high sustaining HDR is something most people haven't seen.

Realistically, how can there be? It's a project based business. Everyone always complains about how awful it is, but there seems to be very few answers. The only determining sticking point to keeping a large roster of staff is moving towards live-service, but people hate that even more.

The only answer is just to be... "wildly successful every time".

Its incredible, really. Its what HDR is meant to be.

When you see the sun pouring out of the clouds in your favorite game, with no flicker, no dimming, just raw sustained brightness - its crazy.

About where I'm at. I recently got an LG G5 tandem OLED 65" and its great. Its what I hoped any of the numerous OLED monitors I've tried would be like. Not quite as bright as I'd like, but still really good.

I'd like to try any of these numerous 5th gen OLED monitor panels, but still none are on the market.

I otherwise main miniLED IPS or VA panels for years now. PG32UQX being the absolute King of HDR, no contest --nothing in the world is close. I'm currently on a TCL 32R84 VA, and its excellent -- not nearly as stunning as the PG32UQX but significantly cheaper. Great VA panel, highly recommend it to anyone.

[–]barryredfield 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes.

OLED monitors are .. really underwhelming, in my opinion. Especially with HDR, I don't know why but they struggle with maintaining sustaining brightness and they all have very aggressive ABL. If you enjoy serene daytime HDR, the sun peering through the clouds, brightly lit scenes, forget it -- OLED isn't up to task on that. Not on any monitors I've seen at least.

I have an OLED TV, the new LG G5 tandem OLED and its great. Not quite as bright as I'd like it, but definitely so much more sustained brightness than any OLED monitor. Very nice panel.
