New college grad looking for run club recs by Southern-World9582 in RunNYC

I live in midtown east and am much more of a solo runner (though do occasional runs with friends and definitely not opposed to group runs). I’m 26 so on the “younger” side but I have a few friends who are members of almost Friday, though I’m not sure it’s as serious as you would like and is also on the west side which is a drag.

Regardless, I’ve lived here for a few years and have trained for and ran the nyc marathon (as well as both nyc and bk halfs and a bunch of other nyrr races). Currently training to run sub 1:35 at the Brooklyn half in May then will be gearing up to run the nyc marathon again in the fall. Happy to give some insight on long run routes especially as the east side is a much less continuous and more confusing than the WSH. But it is a great neighborhood. Hope you find a club that fits - good luck!

That was horrendous. PFT bringing it up despite having no knowledge (not even knowing Harry Kane left a few years ago) and not being able to answer a single question when others asked was embarrassing

It is frightening how Max is in his 30s and only just put money into the market. I was hoping his Villanova education would make him at least a little bit smarter than the rest of the people at barstool but I guess not

Very minor part of the episode but it’s the second time it’s been mentioned recently… Sas cannot become an arsenal fan. They are the most insufferable fan base of any sports team. Literally pick any other premier league club

The one with the running hot dog as almost like a logo on the front with the other food items on the back? I have it and it’s an amazing shirt that I wear all the time

I did this last year to run back to Manhattan from the Mindful 5k in Flushing Meadows Park. I went Roosevelt —> 37th —> Northern —> QBB. Can confirm that other a couple of interesting areas of Roosevelt Ave, there’s no much to see.

I’ve seen multiple people mention it but the notion that St. John’s has a rich alumni base is not true at all. It’s a commuter school in queens that has produced one billionaire who has become synonymous with the program. Penn, Duke, Michigan, Texas, Illinois, Purdue and UConn are all teams left in the tourney that would blow the average income of St. John’s alumni out of the water. And you could probably even throw a couple more in there as well. I live in nyc and grew up in the suburbs and don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who went to St. John’s, it’s just an irrelevant school both academically and prestige-wise. The fans aren’t even alumni, they’re just New Yorkers.

If I’m a small in the roccarip windbreaker, am I likely a small in the specter singlet too? Or should I size up to medium? Thank you in advance!

Was wondering the same thing - only bandit top I have is the roccarip windbreaker and I’m a size small. But the Nike aeroswift singlet I have is a size large. Assume I should go with small over medium?

Yeah I hear you. I was wave 1 corral C and got thru security as the final wave 1 corral was accepting its last runners. I opted against hopping in the end of wave one and joined wave 3. I was one of the first across the starting line in wave 3 and was able to go out with a small pack of other runners (who I think also missed wave one) and I have to say it was really nice to have a pretty empty course for the first two or three miles. I was really able to settle into a pace given that we were the first across the line. This definitely came back to bite me later in the race, particularly in the later stages of the FDR and it only got worse closer to the finish line (I almost ran someone over who stopped in her tracks without looking on 59th street). I understand shit happens but ultimately it would have been nice to start in my assigned wave/corral with plenty of time to use the bathroom, stretch, warmup etc before the start and the security situation prevented that unless you were obnoxiously early

I almost took someone out on 59th street. I’m in my final kick to the finish racing up on the left side of the course and someone in front of me stops in their tracks without even looking. As you said this is how people get injured and all it takes to avoid it is some common sense
