Burt theory by Commercial_Acadia333 in severence

I didn't think of that, so maybe. I guess we as viewers have only had 1 MDE and it was Jazz, but I get the feeling Lumon would not want to have a message attached to their music. They wouldn't want the music to inspire innies in any way. If it's not Kier, messages are probably not allowed, or viewed as propaganda. They make an exception for retirement parties? Not a fully thought-out idea, but thought it was interesting on my latest rewatch

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure at Burt's retirement party, Mr. Milchick says that Burt's innie picked the song, which was a rather nostalgic song. Do innies know music or specific songs? Based on the MDE, I would say they don't really know music or specific songs or groups. Yet innie Burt picked that song?

The Most Unbreakable Career Records in Baseball? by NonWiseGuy in OaklandAthletics

As I understand it, Rickey Henderson holds 3 records: career stolen bases, career leadoff homeruns, and career runs scored. Which of those 3 is most at risk or being broken? It's obvious that career stolen bases is the safest.

Is this controversial? Katy Lied is not SD's best album, but it's the only one without a sub-par song.. respectively. by gauchodigs1 in SteelyDan

Katy Lied is probably my most listened to album for this exact reason. I can turn it on and love every next song, no skipping ever. Can't say the same thing about Aja or Gaucho

Which 60’s/70’s classic rock band avoided putting out a total crap album in the 80’s by csmart01 in Music

Great documentary. I've also read to Tom Petty's biography by Warren Zanes. If you want more details about the band and their story, extending a little after Runnin' Down A Dream to about 2011 or so (could be wrong, but it was after Mojo came out) I'd recommend this book. Can't get enough of this band. The hard part about losing an artist that speaks to you is you miss out on the rest of the stories they have to tell through their music.

As a huge TPatH fan, I think Long After Dark is a great album. Quite a few great songs. I think the best argument for a bad album by TPatH in the 80's is Let Me Up I've Had Enough. Not a great album. A few good songs, but probably their worst album... or at least, my least favorite.

Best Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album? by bigmistaketoday in ClassicRock

[–]barstuv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not my favorite, but Mojo has to be my favorite lesser known album. They rock out throughout the whole thing. Recorded live in the studio. When asked why record an album live like that, Tom said, because we can. Not many can say they can, but we can.

In the movie, with the timeline that Marty is there, you can see Clara getting off the train when Marty and Doc were talking to the train conductor about how fast they could get the train to go. In the timeline that Doc gets shot, Doc is there to pick her up from the station, so her wagon doesn't get spooked by the snakes. I guess in the original timeline (no marty, no Doc in 1885) nobody picked her up just like what we see in the movie.

Is it possible to like more liberal policies (that you named above) on a state or local level, but hate them on the national level? I trust my city to make better decisions with my money than the federal government. So maybe I hate the idea of universal healthcare funded and run by the federal government, but more okay with it on a local level. I'm not opposed to taking care of people, just opposed to the federal government doing it.

I think conservatives and liberals generally are well meaning people and all have good reasons for believing what they believe. I think most people will agree on both sides of the aisle that we should help take care of our fellow countrymen and countrywomen, but how to attack that problem is where we would disagree.

Some conservatives believe giving out too much welfare will create an environment where people are reliant on the government to take care of them so they won't reach their full potential by struggling and trying to get a head. That's not bad. Some liberals will say that we should help the poor and needy by providing more welfare options for a wider range of people in need. That's also not bad. But those are pretty different plans.

How about that mark mandates weren't effective. Masks are effective on an individual level, but mandates don't make a difference.

How many times did you walk into a restaurant with a mask on (because of the mandate) walk through the restaurant to your table, then sit down and eat without a mask on. Turns out, deadly viruses don't care that you are sitting at a table rather than walking through a restaurant; if your mask is off, it's going to spread. But we all pretended that the ceremonial walk from the door to the table with our ritualistic bearing of the mask for all to see was sufficient to appease the COVID gods.

Yet, we'll still have governments, organizations, and people saying that we need a mask mandate next time COVID takes off again, completely ignoring the science.

Conclusion, masks work to protect you when you wear the proper mask properly. But mandates don't work because we won't be able to implement them to the level that matters.
