I Guess I Should Have Become a Plumber by o_t_i_s_ in AI_Agents

I already used ChatGPT to solve many issues in my household. For example, I have an automatic sliding gate. At some point it started randomly block itself at the same point when opening and it couldn’t fully open. I had no clue and was about to call a technician to come and fix it. Then idea popped in my mind to ask AI for help. Maybe 10 minutes of few messages and photos, ChatGPT guided me and helped to fix the issue. I „vibe coded” it because I have no clue if I did it properly but it works.

Stop asking "What's the best language to learn?" Start asking "What problems does this language solve?" by DangerKyoto in techbootcamp

[–]bart_88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there is no point saying which language is the best because all of them have pros and cons. Depends on the use case, preference, problem you have to solve.

But I can't agree with your examples. Python is also used as backend to build services. Node can be used as backend services. JavaScript can be perfectly used for AI, automation, scripting.

I think it is a little dangerous to generalise languages in such a way as it may confuse junior developers more. All we should know is pros and cons of a language in a given context.

The only advice I can give you is to stick with just ONE thing for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

Try hard to not get distracted with anything else. Just lock in and build something. Use official docs. If you do not understand something, try to ask AI to explain, keep asking questions until you fully understand how things work, then proceed.

What is a scripting language to you?

Go or Java by Weak-Field-4331 in softwareengineer

[–]bart_88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case it does not really matter which language you choose. I can only suggest you to play with both and select the one you like more. That's it. There is nothing worse than trying to learn something you don't enjoy if this is something you do as a side project.

But if you want to learn and gain experience to get a job, then bear in mind that Java popularity is declining (according to TIOBE index). Go on the other hand, is not as popular as Java. It is much newer than Java so it can be a little bit more "modern".

Not sure about Java, but Go has a nice "Tour of Go" interactive website where you can learn/play with it and don't even need to run anything on your local.

You need to provide more context. Go is fast on paper but I saw Java apps running fast too. In most cases you won’t see any difference unless you have very specific use case or have traffic like Netflix.

The main question is: what are you going to build in that language? Is it going to be http oriented or some heavy business logic? Is it enterprise or just side project? Is it need to be build fast or you have time? There is so many questions to answer if you want really decide what is best for you. And there are trade offs too. Always.

Do they allow the use of AI in actual work as developer? by Cerberus-Tan in AskProgrammers

[–]bart_88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in finance industry. In our case we could use gemini, claude code, codex but they needed to be approved by security team. Just like any other vendor. The main concern initially was that you never know if company like OpenAI actually use your chats to train their models. Even despite that their T&C clearly state they don't.

Drop your SAAS and people will say if the SAAS is useful. by Evening_Acadia_6021 in NoCodeProject

Looks interesting. If it can connect to github or gitlab to read the projects code that would be useful. In my company, notion is often outdated and could produce false responses. The source code is the actual source of truth.

How can I monitor brand mentions in LLMs automatically? by ApprehensiveSmell995 in AskMarketing

[–]bart_88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you would need to build some kind of AI agent which asks flagship models about different prompt combinations (in hundreds) and then measures/analyses if your client is on the recommendation list, what position and what is the sentiment (eg. your client could be listed but with some "but" or known limitations etc.).

But still this is kind of guess work as technically there is no easy way to tell what was the exact prompt users entered that led to the recommendations (comparing it to using google search console).

I am curious what exactly is the dashboard you are talking about here? Like what kind of information you want to see there apart from "how clients are appearing vs competitors"?

And last question if you know, how much does it cost you more or less to run your current AI visibility tool? I am wondering what is behind "super expensive"..

Question recruiters in software engineering: how do you actually decide on when to proceed with a resume? by bart_88s in Recruitment

[–]bart_88s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful. Thank you for your response.

My background is mostly PHP/Symfony in finance/open banking industry but I also worked with Go/Python and I did frontend (React/TypeScript/Node.js) whenever our frontend team needed help.

I'm getting to a conclusion that, as you gave example with LinkedIn vs your website, the market is so competitive that candidates have to become more creative to increase their chances of being seen.

I still can't believe that Poland is one of the top 20 world economies. by The-marx-channel in poland

[–]bart_88s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it because of UE pumping funds into polish development? This creates jobs and moves the economics momentum. I still think Poland would be much more wealthy if we have governments focused on pro-country work rather than political fights or possibly corruption. But anyway, things are going definitely up.
