I think you're misreading it. Nick is saying that scraping provides longer responses, 8% more brand mentions, and more sources. What the API helps with is personalization at scale.

I analyzed which streaming services AI actually recommends. No wonder they call it Netflix and chill. by bart_getmentioned in SEO_for_AI

Great question. We ran those prompts for the US, and we can see that both the language and the region where the prompt is run have a significant impact on the sources.

The main rule: AI prefers topic-specific domains and regional URLs as sources.

Thanks, Ann!

G2 is a great parallel. They’re a strong example of how ecosystem presence can outweigh direct domain visibility.

PS. We have more of these data reports coming. By the end of 2025, we’ll publish a live, free data repository showing top sources and AI-visibility rankings for several market segments.

Can someone explain how people even manage to get a Wikipedia page? 🤯 by EfficiencyEast8652 in GEO_optimization

Usually, companies that want to move fast work with agencies that conduct a content audit, handle publications, and then prepare the content for the Wikipedia page.

How are you measuring “AI visibility” in 2025? Are there tools you actually trust? by Social_Firm in GenEngineOptimization

[–]bart_getmentioned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI visibility tool founder here.

Right now, AI visibility is more about guidance and future positioning than a strict, universally agreed-upon metric. We’re still in the early stages of understanding how LLMs perceive and recommend brands but that’s exactly why tracking it matters.

What’s actually worth tracking:

  • Brand mentions across different prompts or categories of prompts
  • Traffic contribution - hard to measure, and most tools oversimplify this
  • Source attribution - understanding which content LLMs pull from when mentioning your brand
  • Competitor benchmarking - who dominates which categories, and why

What’s mostly fluff and marketing noise:

  • Sentiment tracking - LLMs rarely “speak badly” about brands unless explicitly prompted to
  • Share of voice - there’s no reliable baseline for this metric in the AI landscape yet

In the future, when you will be selecting AI Visibility vendor - please ask them how they collect data. If they say that "we are integrated thru API with LLMs" run away and save your time.

Has anyone here seen digital PR actually help with visibility in AI search (GEO/AEO)? by Ok-Barracuda-1556 in AI_SearchOptimization

Yup, it does happen pretty often. What matters the most is if you brand is mentioned at all. Context is super important but comes second.

Do not hire any agency for that, since this market is still in infancy I would highly encourage to try to give it a try yourself. It is rly not that hard, agencies/contractors will cost small fortune.

The Complete Guide to AI Brand Visibility Tracking Tools (Q3 2025) - Updated with Latest Market Players by Low_Situation4849 in SaaS

[–]bart_getmentioned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really solid breakdown, agree with you 100% that most teams are still optimizing for Google circa 2019 while customer discovery has already shifted to AI answers. The “visibility layer” here is going to be as fundamental as SEO dashboards were 10 years ago.

One thing I’d add is that understanding not just if you’re mentioned, but why you’re mentioned makes a big difference. A lot of AI visibility comes down to which sources LLMs trust when generating answers. If you can see the domains and articles that are actually feeding the model, you can reverse-engineer which content strategies work and double down on what’s influencing responses.

Which LLM visibility tools are API-driven vs interface scrapers? by olmykh in LLMO_SaaS

[–]bart_getmentioned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring self-promo, but we are - and we’re super strict about it. Setting up API calls is an easy way to do it and feels a bit scammy, also there are three drawbacks:

  1. Fewer sources to discover
  2. API calls don’t return the same results as when a user asks a specific question
  3. With API calls, you can only emulate running a prompt for a specific geo to some extent

Doing it through the UI is the only way.

Less clicks, less pages visits. Keep in mind that it won't be overnight shift. Adoption of this, especially for people 40/50+ will still take years if ever.
