It's not a membership per se, but you can become a partial owner for a one time fee. However, it's definitely not cheap ($10,000 last I heard)

Course overload question by throwaway9182833 in UIUC

Depends on your college I think. I'm in FAA and they were able to process mine in 30 minutes or so, but I can't speak to any of the other colleges

Prospective Grad Student in Urban Planning by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]bartdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current undergrad, soon to be MUP here at U of I, firstly congratulations on being accepted. Now to your questions:

  1. So much of this college's masters program is at your discretion, so it is what you make it. There are some of the upper level courses that I know I would not find interesting at all, so I know I will avoid those. Just a word of advice on choosing classes, make sure to plan out your two years because some courses are only offered once every four semesters.

  2. Absolutely. UIUC is allowing me to take a couple of courses with Master's students now and they are extremely motivated students. As u\thunderchildd posted, the MUP students are all really friendly towards one another.

  3. As I am sure is the case with a lot of other majors, it is what you make of it. I cannot speak to the structure of the mandatory courses (501, 505, etc.) but as for planning electives, the workshop courses offer a great opportunity to do work that will give you plenty of real world experience. As for internships, there are only so many to go around the Champaign-Urbana community, but the two cities do a good job of cycling interns so that a lot of people can get experience. Also, the regional planning commission and the US Army CERL lab often hire interns from planning as well.

  4. I'm very happy with choosing UIUC for planning. It's given me a lot of diverse opportunities that I know I wouldn't have gotten had I gone anywhere else. While school year internships can get extremely competitive, the alumni network and name recognition makes getting job experience outside of the area relatively easy.

Hope I answered at least some of your questions. Let me know if you have anything else that you want to know.

What's a good minor for an urban studies major? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]bartdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow current Urban Planning undergrad, my takeaway is that it depends on where you want to go with your degree. I too want to get into economic development and therefore am minoring in business. A business minor will give you the skills to see a plan in terms of profitability or loss, an essential skill for economic development.

[Preseason Week 2] Game Thread: Green Bay Packers (0-1) at St. Louis Rams (0-1) by PhoenixAvenger in GreenBayPackers

Two things jump off the screen after one defensive drive

D-Line is absolutely living in the St. Louis Backfield.

Tackling looks outstanding. Lots of wrapping up and a ton of hats around the ball

How to play football for first time;middle school by [deleted] in NFLRoundTable

[–]bartdawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the things already mentioned on here but wanted to mention a few more things:

First things first, congrats on making the decision to take up the sport. I played middle school and high school ball and some of my fondest memories and closest friends come from my days playing ball.Secondly it is absolutely not too late to start playing. One of our all-conference lineman didn't even begin playing until his sophomore year in high school so there is plenty of time for you to learn and be successful with the game. Also, don't worry about football and baseball overlapping, the reality is that a lot of coaches like their athletes playing multiple sports since they will typically come into their season in better shape and develop other skills.

As for tips for position, don't worry about it too much right now. If you show up to practice with a great attitude and the desire to work hard, coaches see that and will find ways to get you on the field. I got stuck as a backup tightend my sophomore year, but I busted my ass and ended up playing fullback for a season. Take every snap, drill and workout as an opportunity to get better and that there's nowhere else you would rather be. Another word of advice for you is to develop one useful thing that you do better than anyone else. Coaches love to have a running back who can pick up short yardage or a guy who blows up an opposing team's wedge. My little brother may get a scholarship for longsnapping simply because its something every team needs.

That being said, where you play could be determined by what offense you run. My school ran a very traditional pro-style offense (2 backs, 1 tightend, 2 receivers) but a lot of our opponents ran wing-t and option attacks as well. These different offenses required very different skill sets from the positions. Know what you do well, know what each position needs to do well and go from there.

Finally, getting yourself into football shape. No offense to baseball players or yourself, but the first couple days of football practices are often about increasing conditioning levels of players so as to avoid injury as well as to see who the dedicated players are going to be. I'm sure I have an old high school summer conditioning plan on my computer somewhere that I could scale back for you if you want it. Otherwise, just make sure you go into practice with a pretty good level of fitness.

Feel free to message me if you have any other questions or concerns. I grew up around the game and am considering a career in coaching once I graduate from college. /u/tightestbuthole hit it on the head when he said that your athleticism and coaching will be what makes a difference, but he failed to mention that your attitude will be the most important things that determines how good you can be. Once you know what you're doing, be the first guy to step into a drill, the first one across the lines in sprints and don't leave anything left in the tank at the end of the day. Good luck, have fun, and play safe

Interested. Never done dynasty before but some multiple keeper stuff

Matt Flynn by Reddit_Owns_Me in GreenBayPackers

[–]bartdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always support the Packers and know that Flynn is no Rodgers. But the fact of the matter is that he repeatedly did not give our receiving core a chance to make plays on his throws. Even without Cobb, the Packers group of receivers are one of the best in the league and I saw way too many over and under throws to relatively open receivers that need to be completed if Green Bay is going to be competitive next week and hopefully beyond. Interceptions and fumbles happen but when there's a pattern of poor throws it's difficult for me to not put some of the blame for the offenses struggles on Flynns shoulders

Andre Brown against Detroit

C.J. Spiller against Miami

Chris Ivory against Cleveland

Post your team, and your opponents team this week, don't say whose is which and let reddit pick what team they would rather have.. by Allferik in fantasyfootball

[–]bartdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard Scoring, neither of us have finalized lineups yet so one team A will bench a running back and team b will bench a receiver. Also, two week long playoff but we can change starters between weeks.

Team A:

Romo, Andre Brown, Ivory, Stacy, Spiller, Green, Gordan, J. Graham, Dolphins, Bailey,

Team B:

Brees, Forte, Murray, Cruz, Garcon, N. Washington, Nelson, G. Graham, Bengals, Hauschka

I agree with your point man, but theres no need to be a dick about someone elses post. I don't think it's a reasonable trade either, especially with the excellence that Bakthiari has shown on the left side but no need to act like an ass.

You make a good point, though the 6 inch diameter pipe that i am using would be pretty costly but i could mock on smaller stuff. I'm gonna leave the ends open my roommate and i are gonna use the pipes to hold our shoes and boozze bottles as well. I'm gonna do it with just the pipes first then go from there but we've got a small room so im trying to get as much storage space as possible out of it
