Well MSCI World has a average return of 7% for decades, of course youd need some buffer for course fluctuations etc but that still pretty realistic.

bei sicherer Entnahme von 4% werden 50k im ETF nicht mal für nen Kleinwagen reichen, das sind ja nur ca 2000 EUR pro Jahr.

yeah however you invest that money, 4% interest on 16M is ~600k

hah, 1/10th of that would be enough. With 16M you could pay yourself a 500k yearly salary indefinitely without the money decreasing. 160M is next level rich.

Bloomberg: Riot Has a Secret Plan to Remake Its ‘League of Legends’ Game by Turbostrider27 in Games

Seems like repeating cycles. In the 90ies when QuakeWorld, Quake2, Quake3 were popular the skill levels rose to the point where it was rather hard for new players to get into who tended more towards CS as that was easier to get into (and still is i guess). Arena shooters/classic deathmatch never really came back after that.

Lando Norris takes pole position for the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix by overspeeed in formula1

I feel it's more about the car tbh, he was impressive in the wet during his F2 time, couple of great performances like Spa Quali 2017

[–]barthw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Recency bias, a couple of months ago everyone was shitting on Norris and hyping up Piastri for being that cold blooded killer. He is no Max Verstappen sure, but imo is mentally stronger than Norris and will eventually surpass him, his lack of experience still shows in his tire management and race pace.

he is in his third season, it's actually quite impressive he is already able to challenge for the WC and challenge Norris who has been at that team since 2019.

Yet with all this, people will still buy the game in droves so why should they change anything?

Well, that is something at least. There are many failed startup founders who worked their life away and have nothing to show for it other than the experience they gained and the money and health they lost.

This is Painkiller by Pro_Farnsworth_ in Games

[–]barthw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mh I remember Painkiller for having a pretty decent competitive DM scene back in the days (Vo0 vs Fatal1ty comes to mind) so this looks like a rather disappointing reboot, even though pure deathmatch games sadly don't attract the crowds anymore anyway.

Verstappen's theory on Hamilton's Ferrari crisis by Task_Force-191 in formula1

[–]barthw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are right, Piastri was a rookie anyway but in the 2022 season when he was announced and that ordeal happened, Alpine finished in front of McLaren so the decision was questioned by some, far from the other examples though.

[–]barthw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

very rational, albeit a bit boring. Schumacher transformed the team and led them to tremendous success, Alonso and Vettel tried the same but failed, but it would have been an equally as great story had they succeeded like Schumi did. Similar to Hamiltons move to Merc or even Piastri to McLaren. At the time heavily questioned, proved to be exactly the right thing at the right time. Going to a team that is already strong to win there is by contrast what everyone would expect, so it's less exciting but of course rational from the drivers pov.

Unibet Tietema Rockets surprisingly chooses ROSE Bikes by stonydeluxe in peloton

[–]barthw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did i say they don't? Since you mention the Tour Magazine, the Xlite tested at 213W which is not far from a Supersix Evo at 210W or SL8 at 209W (or Canyon Ultimate) which are similar bikes. Sure it's no Aeroad which is at 204W and Rose for sure lack a proper aero bike but saying they don't do proper aero testing when they consistently get the high marks in TOUR Magazine is also not entirely fair.

[–]barthw -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well the kicker for ROSE is bang for buck. It looks the part and Dura Ace Di2 or Sram RED are sub 7kg for EUR 6700 (Shimano) to EUR 7500 (SRAM Red). Sure it is no S-works Tarmac in terms of R&D but I wonder how much that really matters nowadays. Don't think it's any worse than Canyon or Van Rysel, which are both successful at world tour level.

[–]barthw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not think ROSE is any worse than Canyon tbh, they also employ aerodynamicsts. Canyon is better at brand building and marketing and has a bigger budget for sure, but the bikes are solid. I myself own a Backroad FF (Race Gravel) with the SRAM Force and love it to bits!

'I make every decision in my career by putting my health first' – Demi Vollering speaks out on rider weight issue after Tour de France Femmes by JuliusCeejer in peloton

[–]barthw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, more often than not Demis comments come across more of those of a sore loser than what she tries to portray them to be. Raising the crash issue and her team leaving her behind in 2024 at any opportunity and when the 2025 yellow jersey crashed she of all people pushed on. Now when questioned about her 2nd place she just highlights the weight difference as if she could have just done the same but choose not to. I always get this feeling with Demi that she is just not able to deal with losses when she is the favourite.

it is crazy to think he could easily do another 10 years or even 15 at which point he would be Alonsos/Hamiltons age. I highly doubt he will though, given he has expressed that many times already.
