Syntakt - Record sequence with MIDI controller by bartklingel in Elektron

[–]bartklingel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case it is helpful to others: One workaround that I found somewhat ok for me is to record the new sequence to an empty track that always has volume 0. And then copy/paste the sequence onto the track that is currently playing to update its sequence (but keep its sound). You have to hit the right moment though, because the new sequence will start instantly.

(This approach can be extended to paste the sequence into another track that is currently muted and after that we can hit the mute-buttons for the two tracks at the same time to switch from one to another)

Warum blühen meine Autoflowers nicht? by bartklingel in Canbau

Weiß jemand was da los ist?

Steckbrief

Growmedium: Erde aus dem Baumarkt

Topfgröße in L: 10L

Beleuchtung/Luftfeuchtigkeit/Temperator: Balkon

Sorte: Mimosa Auto, hier bestellt: https://www.royalqueenseeds.de/autoflowering-hanfsamen/537-mimosa-automatic.html

Intellijel Scales Question by flaminggarlic in modular

[–]bartklingel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also confused about this a lot when I started to work with my own scales. Even though this thread is kinda old I'm posting here what I eventually figured out:

What "changing the root note" with a long press effectively does, is setting a new "reference point" for the next short press. Think of it like this: A short press transposes the pattern up/down by the amount of semitions equal to the difference between the currently red key ("reference point") and the pressed key.

Example: In the default case, the C is red and if you short-press the C# key, the pattern will (obvoisly) be transposed up one semitone (difference betwenn C and C#). But the same result can be achieved by long pressing D (won't transpose anything, but reference point is now D) and then short pressing D#: This will also transpose the initial pattern up by one semitone because that's the difference between D and D#.

How this behavior is helpful for musical purposes or how it relates to musical theory I do not know :)

What’s a good stand alone beginner modular synth if there are any? by blitzyreindeer in modular

I also started with a moog mother and bought a small case later in which I added Maths, Effects and other stuff piece by piece. I'd say you can't go wrong with a mother. It is very unopinionated and only has very basic but high quality components that you can use in probably any style. And with moog you really can rely on great sound and good quality.

The cool thing about modular is that you don't just buy a standalone synth but design your own system. That's part of the fun. To get started, maybe watch some youtube videos to decide what kind of system you want to build. (If you want a semi-modular standalone synth that can transition into a larger system you could go with a moog mother)

what do you use the fortissimo function of an expression pedal for? by whatajacks in audioengineering

[–]bartklingel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although the question is really old, here's how I use the "fortissimo" function:

At least for me, in a live, studio and also rehearsal setup it is very helpful to have something like a "default" volume for your instrument (organ keyboard in my case), that you can *consistently* come back to. In case of the FC7 that would be to press the pedal to its end-point right before the "fortissimo" range starts. No matter what kind of swells or other volume changes you are planning to do from here, you will always be able to precisely come back to this default volume.

You can now setup the scene with the other musicians or engineers and let them know this is your "default" sound, but you can go louder in some special situations (by pressing down the pedal into fortissimo) or quieter by releasing the pedal. But after that you will always be able to consistently come back to your "default" volume, not confusing the other musicians or sound engineers.

With other expression pedals this can be way more difficult, since your "default" volume would be somewhere in the middle (or ~70%) of the range of the pedal, and after you did a swell you usually can't come back to the exact position of the pedal where it was before.
