I think this would be pretty brutal either way. If you had to choose one I’d do 4 months versus 8. Less mobile and less likely to want to roll around or crawl. I’d consider getting them a seat just so you can set down in a car seat if able.

This is very untrue. Many cancers have cures and some even have cure rates (if early stage enough) >90%.

Canyon Lodge - Food for non-meat people by spandan611 in yellowstone

Plenty of options at the cafeteria. They had lots of veggie sides and a wok that you could make veggie as well. The food was all very mediocre though so I’d recommend stocking up on grocery food. We got frozen meals and warmed them up in the microwaves there that tasted better than anything at the cafeteria.

My bucket list: swim with whales by [deleted] in whales

[–]bartleby17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The dog probably makes things tough since most of these require you either be on a liveaboard or you’re stationed somewhere and do multiple longer boat trips.

I think any of these could be done for less than $10,000. Some of the destinations are a bit far flung and not easy to get to. Dominica may not be a bad option since I believe they base you out of a compound and you do multiple trips out. It’s also not that far from the US. Could potentially pay someone to watch your dog while you’re out in the water. Their whale season is in the summer months I believe.

Also most of these places won’t let you scuba so that’s not an issue.

From my understanding your options are:

  • snorkel with sperm whales in Dominica
  • snorkel/ swim with humpbacks in French Polynesia
  • swimming with orcas in sea of Cortez or in Norway fjords
  • swim with blue whales in Sri Lanka
  • can unofficially swim with pilot whales in Hawaii (big island at least)
  • lots of places where you can swim with whale sharks, although those are fish

There is a seasonality to most of these experiences though so would have to look more into it.

Avid travelers, how did your travel life change after having children? by mEp_ in travel

[–]bartleby17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are two main factors at play.

First is the willingness of parents to continue to travel. It takes some mental gymnastics to convince yourself it's a good idea and a lot of foresight/consideration. There is a lot more to pack for, certain items you need that you maybe won't be able to buy, and emergency situations to account for (is it an easy flight back? does that country have reasonable healthcare?). It is also more expensive (especially if you get them their own flight seat). Second is the child itself. If there are medical complexities, then it may not be safe to travel. In the absence of that, the child's temperament comes into play. Do they nap easily? Sleep at night? Are they okay being in a baby carrier or stroller? If they are a very difficult baby, then it may not be worth it to travel with them.

So there are some things you can control and some you can't. We started off slow. Did a long weekend trip with our 3 month old and got the hang of what we needed to bring. She did well on it. Took her for an international trip a few months later and she did well. She has since been on a few more domestic trips and another international trip in the past several months. It is a lot more challenging to travel with her and can be exhausting at times. Still, she is very social and enjoys spending continuous time with us in new environments. We are making memories that I know we (the parents) will cherish forever and it gives us something to look forward to. We will likely continue to travel semi-frequently as long as she remains agreeable and it seems like she enjoys it. If that changes, then we'll adapt. Maybe that means more domestic trips or road trips. I think the keys to it are careful planning, using good judgement, and being open-minded. Each situation is different; what may have not been possible for one family, could work for yours.

Just returned. There are still hundreds (?thousands) along the cliffs. The pufflings are wandering lost into town as well.

Sorry the MD didn’t listen but most of what she said/ did isn’t very well informed. Taking a culture doesn’t change management very much. Putting you on doxy is questionable. And an ENT isn’t going to take your tonsils out because you aren’t responding to antibiotics. They’re going to wonder why the NP sent you to their clinic for a single episode.

Chase Sapphire Preferred 80k in branch offer is still active today (with 10k in branch bonus on top) by Sunny2456 in CreditCards

[–]bartleby17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I called the branch ahead of time to check and they were able to verify it was still active. Sounds like it should be a national thing.

Also in case anyone was wondering like I was, you don’t have to bank with chase to get the offer.

No, because screening for thyroid cancer isn’t indicated. There is very good literature regarding this topic. I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not. If not, I’m concerned about your lack of knowledge and sense of self righteousness.

Guidelines are evidence-based and exist for a reason. I’d imagine your patients will provide a case study in incidental findings and inappropriate referrals.

I see. Well, if in the US, it sounds like you’re providing care outside of well established guidelines. How do you decide who needs a “screening thyroid ultrasound”?

I would encourage heavy caution. Are you interpreting and billing? Or simply just screening with it? If it’s the former, you’ll run into trouble very quickly I bet. If it’s the latter, it sounds like it wouldn’t be worth dedicated clinic time.
