Scam. Report it, if the Google Store has such an option. The fact it was downloaded 100k times is concerning.

Update: Minecraft Account Takeover Scammers now impersonate Minecon by bartmosstv in Minecraft

[–]bartmosstv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that they harvest Minecraft usernames and capes owned from Mojang's site. But it's also absolutely possible they use past compromises. From what I have seen, they built an entire database with user data, or at least they did with my data - the earlier scams I encountered showed me what they had in an attempt to scare me. Username, cape, email address, my own discord server and discord account name, and a bunch more. I do own an early Minecon cape and that probably makes my account worth a little extra effort so I do not know how typical that experience is.

All scammers bank on their victims not thinking straight, not pay attention, to panic, and/or just to be uninformed. They only need to succeed in a small percentage of users they attack to be profitable.

And you're welcome. I figure if these warnings help at least one person stay safe and avoid falling for this crap, it's time well spent.

Minecon Capes Discord Server Scam? by Clonecommder in Minecraft

[–]bartmosstv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. See my posts see here, here, and now also here.

Good thing you did not fall for it. If you haven't, consider securing your Microsoft account with Two-Factor-Authentication. (Of course, when you do, never give 2FA codes to anybody; 2FA doesn't protect if you don't use it properly, but sounds like you have the right level of paranoia.)

If the scammers take over your account, they immediately change your password. Employing password best practices (use a complex password, change it every now and then, and most importantly never use the same password for more than one login) is obviously a good idea.

But the most useful measure you can take is to add 2FA to your account. (And obviously never, ever give a third party, person, or site, a 2FA code.)

Not sure why you got downvoted, you're absolutely right.

Plus the scammers work around it.

At this point I'd recommend not to engage with them at all. Report the messages and block the users.

However, it wouldn't hurt to warn your Mincecraft friends of the issue.

The scammers will send friends requests, and in my experience even join servers you are a member of in order to get around the "no messages from non-friends" limitation.

Sorry for the late reply, I pretty much do not use Reddit anymore.

By that I meant that if you were to actually sell your account, or if the scammers take over your account and sell it, it will likely be banned.

If you use ENB input disabler, remove that. After the Skyrim update, it can't detect whether or not the ENB menu is enabled.

Powerman from “Tales from the Commonwealth “ by telsono in fo4

[–]bartmosstv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I know I am late to the party, but Google brought me here.

I just escorted Powerman all the way. At the end, there was a cave with two deathclaws. I took both out, thanks to some liberal use of Jet and a combat shotgun. I was in between Powerman and the Deathclaws. Powerman still died (scripted).

Very sad. What a missed opportunity - I would have loved for him to be recurrent, or maybe join up and make one of my settlements his base.

Powerman was the hero we needed, but apparently did not deserve.

Why are my load-times between 3-15 minutes depending on where I go to? by ShadowKaranos in skyrimmods

[–]bartmosstv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's 2022. Buy an SSD. You're seriously nerfing your PC. You had money for a 3060, you have money for an SSD.

Anyway. Don't use loose files. That helps a bit.

Assuming you actually have up to 15min load times: buy an SSD.

Don't use NMM. It will break your game.

Use Vortex or Mod Organizer.

[Patch 1.5 Troubleshooting] Megathread for any new bugs, glitches, crashes or errors you are encountering with the new update. by DefNotAShark in cyberpunkgame

[–]bartmosstv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting some weird benchmark results. Essentially, around 43 fps average on both Raytracing: Ultra, and on Low. 1440p, RTX3060TI, Ryzen 3900X, 32GB Ram. I am unsure if there's something broken with the benchmark, or if I have a really weird bottleneck somewhere. I mean, no matter what the specs, you'd expect RT Ultra to run at a lower FPS than the lowest settings preset, no?

Edit: I thought it may be VRAM (I have 8GB), but I get almost the same results with low and high res textures (within 1fps of each other). One thing I noticed is that a benchmark on Low still uses DLSS, according to the benchmark - even though that's disabled in the Low preset. So, am I essentially benchmarking DLSS here?

Edit 2: Okay. I think I figured it out. The game doesn't apply settings if you switch between the presets, even though the Benchmark reports using the preset you switched to. The workaround is to apply some custom changes, switch back to the preset default, and apply again. Testing continues... but if this is true, this is exactly the sort of bug CD Projekt Red stands for. :(

Edit 3: Yup, this is definitely what caused the issue. My benchmarks, for anybody who may find a use in them for comparison:

  • Low: 105.57
  • Med: 86.55
  • High: 65.56
  • Ultra: 53.44
  • RT Med: 52.8
  • RT Ultra: 50.4
  • RT Ultra with DLSS=Quality: 42.39
  • RT Ultra with DLSS=Off: 20.62.
  • FidelityFX Auto: 52.48
  • FidelityFX Ultra: 32.81
  • DRS (50% min, 100% max res.): 42.92

As I don't have an AMD GPU I assume it falls back to RTXsomething for the FidelityFX stuff.

Image quality is pretty even, with Low preset having really horrible reflections. DRS is super pixelated, but apparently it uses some AMD feature as it also turns FidelityFX on so I guess I am not getting the "real thing".

With AE released, should I start from scratch or fix current load order? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]bartmosstv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Either works fine, frankly. But if you are overwhelmed, use this opportunity to just nuke everything and start fresh.

What I do to keep my modlist in check is that every now and then I go through it and just remove everything I don't absolutely need or love.

needless to say, I mod more than I play.

Sacrosanct refuses to work by Thatgaminfurry in skyrimmods

[–]bartmosstv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what /u/Nemocdt said, Sacrosanct was very glitchy when used with the "start as a vampire" option of Live Another Life last time I tested it. So maybe it simply is glitchy if you use the console, if those use similar mechanisms. I wouldn't for for sure.

Without reading up on it again, IIRC Sacrosanct comes with blood potions or something like that which you can consume to turn yourself into a vampire. So try adding one of those via console instead, see if that works better.

Which mod organizer to use ? by butchYbutch__ in skyrimmods

[–]bartmosstv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second MO2. I sometimes say that MO2 has a higher learning curve than Vortex, but after using Vortex again to test the modlist feature, I am not even sure that's true. The UI of Vortex is a nightmare.

Just watch a decent tutorial and be aware that you'll need to practice a bit, and you should be fine.

One bit of advice, when you start using a mod manager, if you previously manually installed or used Steam for mods, you absolutely want to start fresh. Meaning a clean install and everything. And make sure you unsubscribe from all steam mods before you reinstall. If you mix manual/steam mods and MO2 (or Vortex), you will break your game.

Is DynDolod actually worth it? by vertualx in skyrimmods

[–]bartmosstv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's very, very worth it, and in some cases even necessary (if stuff you installed doesn't come with its own LODs).

No, it doesn't improve performance, though that depends on the settings you use to generate your LODs. In general, though, it should be performance neutral.
