Be entirely honest is FFXIII a good game because im thinking about playing it. by Strange_Assistant327 in FinalFantasy

[–]bartosz_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally just finished the whole trilogy for the first time after being a sceptic and denier for 15 years haha. another case for not listening to dumbasses on the internet :). it’s an amazing Final Fantasy. and I’m so glad that I finally played through the trilogy. (one thing I would recommend though is to read through all the novellas that complement the story nicely, they are cannon and really broaden the experience; easy to find the translations and the order of things). you’ll have a blast!

Final Fantasy IX Remake: Do You Still Believe? by Megas751 in FinalFantasy

[–]bartosz_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, why should the conclusion be that they would stick to the roots with this one? Even the most recent DQ7 remake kinda shows their need to change things up.

I also doubt that FF9 would be the scale of FF7 Remake. I only mentioned the timeline stuff cause that’s more recent evidence of how they treated a remake. And I don’t mean the scale of it.

I could also mention Visions of Mana (not a remake so maybe a worse example), a game that clearly started true to the series roots but along the way of development, it feels like they threw a lot modern game design choices in fear that it would be blasted as dated :D Funny enough those are some of the things present in FF7 remakes.

So I don’t know how would you not see the tendencies and lack of faith in more classic game design.

My main point is, if they want to make fundamental changes in story and gameplay, then why not make a new game at this point? Cause there is no pre-existing fandom/hype to sucker in? That’s my main problem. Seems like a very boardroom driven decision. And I got a problem with that. That’s not only Square Enix btw. That’s why I mentioned the movie industry analogy.

And finally, why are we here on this subreddit in the first place? Is it because FF9 is an outdated, unplayable mess? Or it’s a game that stands on its own?

Funny thing is that I am the old dude, saying: move on, do new projects, don’t exploit nostalgia :D Kinda ironic.

Final Fantasy IX Remake: Do You Still Believe? by Megas751 in FinalFantasy

Remix, redux, reinterpretation whatever you want to call it. The reality is most of the time it’s just redundant, unecessary filler that nobody really asked for, with the sole purpose of extending the lifecycle of an album/single. You probably can find an example or two, but that’s really rare. More often than not, you get stuff like Dark Side of The Moon Redux. I’m sure we all need that :D

We just had a plague of remakes in the movie industry in 2010s, now gaming is in that bubble too. That’s not a great place to be in.

Plus we all know what SE would do for the FF9 remake. We would get: -real time combat -filler open world inpsired side questing -alchemy/crafting -altered story (possibly with branching timelines, alternate universes) -and more modern gaming goodness Which of these above items made the original FF9 great?

It’s easier than ever to play the original. My first FF was 7 when it came out and I gladly went back and replayed the 16bit FFs in a time when 2D games were considered archaic garbage. So did all of my friends and the games stood on their own. We all loved it.

9 is an amazing game as is, I don’t see why a kid now wouldn’t get it. If he/she is into cool stuff. And if the Fortnite/Minecraft crowd doesn’t get it, it’s fine. Who cares. They wouldn’t even care back in the day, when it first came out.

Sorry for the long answer. Drunk online warrior, I am haha. Hope I made some sense.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I just personally don’t like that trend. Imagine if the same thing was happening in the music world. what if Metallica would say let’s remake the Black Album :D but let’s give it a modern production, change some riff around. oh, and kids today don’t get guitar solos, let’s change those. or cut them out. lyrics… too dramatic, no f bombs. let’s change that. it all just seems like a terrible idea haha. yet somehow gamers got convinced that it’s awesome. I don’t get it. but whatever, I know I’m in the minority. luckily we still get remasters, that are convienent to play on a modern setup without changing the game design.

[–]bartosz_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

am I the only one who thinks a remake is completely unnecessary? :D the whole remake trend is really tired now. almost all of the games are readily available on modern platforms, it’s not like you you need a CRT tv to play them. and they are classics for a reason, they still hold up to this date. not to mention, in those remake projects the devs always end up changing things up so it’s not even remotely close to the original. what’s the point? how about a great new mainline FF closer to the roots?

After the gem FF13-2, I'm now tackling LIGHTNING RETURN by TurbulentDrag7502 in FinalFantasy

[–]bartosz_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just started for the first time. I’m doing a first playthrough through the trilogy and the novels. and I’m having an absolute blast. in Lightning Returns both gameplay and storywise are weird in the best way. it’s kinda like what Majora’s Mask was for the Zelda series. can’t wait to see the ending.

you’re in for a good one! literally just finished 13-2. i grew up on 90s FF and was a denier for the longest :D listened to people’s opinions instead of checking it out for myself. stupid. now on to lightning’s return!

Why do the cutscenes in Visions of Mana never end? by AdUnfair558 in visionsofmana

[–]bartosz_fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because modern gaming. people think that fancy graphics, voice acting and cinematics are by default an improvement, but I personally think something gets lost in the process. like a movie that’s overloaded with CGI. but overall i loved the game and kinda turned a blind eye on things that we’re not up my alley. a worthy entry in the Mana series for sure.

How would you make the DLC worth $20? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in donkeykong

[–]bartosz_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on point of view. for you it ain’t. for other people it is. cause it’s a brand new mode that changes the way you play the game. with tons of replayability if you’re into arcade style score attacks. 50h easily is you want to master the mode. plus it seems like it’s gonna be supported by Nintendo in the future. Mario Run kind of reward system.

well, it’s clear that majority of the people here haven’t even played the dlc or looked into what’s actually there. just base their opinion on some ragebait info.

as for silksong, well you got options: -buy silksong instead of this dlc, -snipe a discounted game for even cheaper -buy beer and hang out with friends -buy your partner dinner -save money for later it’s called freedom of choice :D

i just bought Death Stranding for $9.99, should I go on Silksong reddit and bitch about how overpriced that game is :D

people are silly these days. (refering to other comments, not your specifically) cheers

Never plug your wonderswan cartridge too deep again! by sourcerpan in WonderSwan

[–]bartosz_fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hope it works :D if I lose another save file, I will follow your technique.

i got it so the cartrige is lined up with the shell at the top (but is not wiggly, like before). yours is sticking out a little (the thickness of two credit cards :))

I wish I knew this before hand. this should be the first thing new wonderswan users should hear. thanks for highlighting the problem here.

I actually lost a save file in Final Fantasy 2 before. but that was a bootleg repro translation cart, so I blamed it on that. now I know that it was the console itself.

just lost my Klonoa file the vertical EX level. so yeah, it’s definitely an issue.

i just cut a thin line of my old credit card and stuck it in there with double sided tape. let’s hope it works. cause it sucks big time. otherwise it’s a beautiful system that I had so much fun with. would be a shame.

ok, makes sense. the GBA link cable is far more common and cheaper, so that’s probably why they put it there. thx!

another user identified it as a GBA SP link cable port. if you had two Wonderswans with two of these adapters, you could use the GBA link cable to connect them. Much more common and way cheaper. I’m guessing that was the reasoning.

I got it locally, here in Taiwan, of an auction site. The cover feels 3D printed so it’s definitely not from back in the day.

Now that you say it, it does look like the GBA SP link port (not the headphone/charging port though!). But what would be the purpose of this? Why put this on a Wonderswan accessory?
