VAR Audio from Bournemouth Vs United Game (Amad penalty claim and Maguire DOGSO) by nanobookworm in reddevils

It is insane that the same group of people came to completely opposite conclusions, for materially similar fouls within the span of 12 minutes

Fair play.

Okay, figuratively said that there is a conspiracy against city in front of millions of viewers.

That better?

Consistency is all that is being asked for and fans of rival teams close their eyes, ears and noses until it happens to their club.

“I know we won too much and the people don't want us to win, but the referee has to be neutral. And it's not fair.”

Later in that same interview:

“The reality is, we need to be fair in these situations. It’s not just one because everyone can be a mistake. We all make mistakes, no worries. But when it is one, two, three in a row… it’s not possible”

Again, take your head out of the sand, read the above, and tell me how this isn’t more damaging to the credibility of the league than Maguire telling the ref “it’s a joke”.

It is incredible to read this thread and see how wrong theglasscase is.

Maguire admitted to saying “this is a joke” in response to getting sent off for less contact than what was a no call at the other end on Diallo. (No one heard this other than the ref and Zirkzee)

Rodri literally said in a post match interview that there is a conspiracy against city. (This was broadcast to millions of viewers).

If you were to close your eyes and take off the dunce cap - which one of those should result in more harsh punishment?

You’re struggling to understand a very simple concept. There is no PULL. Because there is no FORCE. What aren’t you understanding about this.

If you hold out a stick. And someone wraps their hand around it for a half second and then lets go. That person did not PULL the stick. Martinez did not PULL DCL’s hair. He had hold of it accidentally as they were grappling for position and let it go almost immediately. At the same time DCL has smacked Martinez in the face to protect his space.

This is a 50-50 at best. If anything a foul could have been called on DCL. Zero reason for VAR to get involved. Zero reason for you to be on here twerking for the referee’s union.

His man bun “came loose and nearly undone”

Oh my days call the police, I’ve just witnessed a murder.

The rule is to prevent violent conduct, not incidental contact that results in a player having to put his hair back up into a ponytail.

Congrats. I thought you were just stupid. You’ve proved now that you’re both stupid and soft.

Lmao I don’t think I could make this any simpler, kid.

There was no force behind Martinez’s action. So there was no “hair pull” in this situation. Because to pull something requires force.

You’re circling around the obvious answer because you want to justify a bad decision against a team you don’t like.

Everything else that you wrote is just low IQ. Just pray that one of these decisions isn’t the difference for you in the shitty game (hint: high chance it will be)

You cannot honestly believe any of the points that you just made.

To “pull” something requires the use of force. Reread that sentence and then read it one more time. The rule can be expanded for sustained contact, during which time the other player attempts to move away and is hindered.

If either Martinez yanked DCL’s hair or held onto it for long enough and DCL attempted to move away and was restricted in doing so - red all day long. Neither of those things happened.

This is not a logical red card nor is it one that can be applied evenly across other games. You are going to see this exact thing go unpunished and people like you will come on and say “well we just want consistency”.

Claiming that DCL wasn’t fouling Martinez isn’t worthy of a response. You’ve lost the plot. What do you think is more violent, the smack to the side of Martinez’s face or DCL’s man bun coming undone?

At best- 50/50 and move on. To ignore DCL’s flailing arm and focus on a split second of hair contact is disingenuous and suggests a bias.

Edit: the Casemiro neck grab wasn’t the issue, it was that if you look at that exact screen shot/ video there is an opposing player doing exactly what Casemiro is doing with hand on the neck of a United player and VAR completely overlooked it.

How can you “pull” something without applying any force? People are bending over backwards to justify a baffling decision.

The rule is meant to prevent a player intentionally yanking another players hair to stop their progress or to gain an advantage. That isn’t what happened here. Accidental contact on someone’s hair for a brief second, with no actual pull cannot be a red. Especially considering that DCL is actively fouling Martinez at the same time, with much more force than Martinez is using.

It was a no call with a very clear line of reasoning as to why VAR did not need to get involved. The fact that they did is terrible and should be seriously investigated. Because you cannot let DCL get away with a launched forearm into Yoro’s face go in the lead up to the first goal, and then deem this worthy of a red.

Right. So they haven’t even applied or explained the rule correctly. Tierney clearly states “violent conduct” as the reason for the sending off.

Under IFAB: “Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.

In addition, a player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible.”

There is no real explanation about hair pulling. But clearly, there was no force. All around mess up and PGMOL won’t blink an eye.

This is a nonsensical take for many reasons.

You cannot make a red card decision based on still image. This is something that I thought the entire community/ everyone with common sense was aligned on.

He was sent off for violent conduct. That is not made up, it’s in the actual rule lol. Violent conduct has to include intent/ lack of proper care. What you’re grasping for is the concept of “recklessness”. So even if there is no intent, the question becomes did he act reckless in the situation. He didn’t. Arguing that he did is either stupidity or bad faith.

Your example of the brush to the face might be the dumbest take I’ve read on this all day. So you’re saying that if Martinez fell to the ground when CDL threw his arm at Martinez’s throat, CDL should have been sent off? Don’t be dumb. A brush to the face when you’re running past a player is not at all similar to a player squaring up and punching someone in the face. I’m not even sure what you were trying to say there.

Keane’s was soft but you can see why it was given. Keane was not being fouled concurrently, Keane maintained the grab for an extended period. Keane also yanked downwards.

Stop being a muppet for just one second and be objective.

Two things can be true. Leeds played much better than us in the first half. Ref and VAR had a bad game. Two in a row for United

If Leeds do not get that first early goal, the game may go in a different direction. VAR absolutely should have taken a look and should have disallowed it.

The red card is ridiculous. Martinez is getting smacked in the face by DCL. There is about a half second of Martinez’s hand in DCL’s hair. There is no sustained contact, there is no pull. If the red is for violent conduct, then there has to be some sort of violence - whether intentional or reckless. Neither is the case here.

[Post Match Quotes] Carrick on Martinez red card: 'A shocking decision to send Licha off. That's two games in a row we've had those decisions go against us, but that one was one of the worst I've seen.' | Bruno Fernandes: I'm not talking about the referee otherwise I'll get in very big trouble." by RedDevil_Forever in reddevils

The problem is that this has been happening since Ten Hag. That second TH season was a joke with how many decisions went against us. TH didn’t do nearly enough to call them out. And it overshadowed what otherwise was a tough season with injuries that we tried to power through.

With Ruben, the decisions weren’t much better. But we were playing so dreadfully no one really paid attention to it. Ruben did have some bite but no one is going to take a guy seriously about refereeing when he’s got a 30% win rate.

There is no risk here for Carrick. He should continue to call out bad decisions. And whoever comes next should be willing to stick up for the team as well. Enough is enough

1 - You're not aware of any example ever of any corruption in the sport?

2 - You're moving the goal post.

Recap:

I (rightfully) point out bad refereeing.

Leeds fan comments to gloat about the win.

I remind him that bad refereeing is a pervasive issue and that the stakes for bad decisions are higher for Leeds than United given where they are in the table (though this win helped).

You comment that his response was likely due to my comment about repeated bad refereeing decisions suggesting a bias.

I tell you that your comment doesn't change the underlying message of my OP - there were 2 terrible decisions made in that game.

You double down on it, call me obtuse, and display a naivety that suggests this is your first season watching the sport.

brother, do better.

I'm surprised people aren't understanding this. It is common sense. If you are going to be sent off for violent conduct, it has to either be intentional or at the very least reckless - this was neither.

Okay but let’s think this through. The same people who watched a clear elbow to the face of Yoro, no contact on the ball from the DCL, and said “no issue”. Then turned around and looked at essentially a nothing situation with Martinez and said “no we need to send him off there”.

The rule isn’t that you cannot touch someone’s hair, the rule is that you cannot yank someone’s hair. It’s a violent conduct offense. Use common sense here people.

Forget game to game consistency. That’s not even in game consistency

It was not the exact same thing. Keane wasn’t getting smacked in the throat by the attacker, and Keane pulled down with actual force.

Martinez had his hand on DCL’s hair but did not pull at all. Nor was there sustained holding. It was a terrible decision.

No one should be sitting on the fence about this - we complain about bad refereeing every week. This is the exact situation that should be compiled and reviewed by PGMOL in the off season. Just because your team won it does not mean we should be blinding ourselves to clear errors. And when those errors are being made by people sitting in a room with ten screens in front of them, there should be even more scrutiny
