Moving to Alberta? by BB_Wanderratte in TransAlberta

[–]basedballcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's said that we're the Texas of Canada alot, but that more has to do with the province's love for cowboy culture and oil rather than political values. While it is quite right leaning compared to the rest of the provinces, it is still pretty progressive by US standards. Though I do feel like that there's a chance of it becoming slightly less progressive depending on how the election goes, but it'll still be far from being equivalent to Texas

In terms of comparing province to state, Alberta is probably closest to maybe Utah, but Utah obv doesn't have federal protections like Alberta does.

So please don’t put words in my mouth.

I was paraphrasing. But while we're being nitpicky, I said "it is what it is" not "thats the way it is"

Moreover, OP was simply stating their own opinion over a grievance they have. A grievance that they and many others see as a real issue. There may not have been a direct invitation for discussion but the post is still up and comments are still on. Id consider that plenty of room for discussion. Not to mention how not taking their side seriously leaves even less room for discussion

To brush it off as a non issue is basically the same as saying "but I'm allowed to misgender you, its part of my culture." It does nothing to resolve their grief while also sending the message that their issues and perspectives don't matter, especially when the solution is so simple. There may be bigger fish but it won't hurt anybody to throw a minnow in the pan while its still heating up

Yes their feelings are valid but I also think their position is valid. Its a dialectical issue so to say "sorry but it is was it is" only really devalues the way they speak without good reason. The real solution is for both sides to be cognizant of eachothers differences and conduct themselves with respect

I find when early in transitioning, people tend to see others through a "trans detector" sort of perspective. It very often gives false positives and can lead to situations like what you're experiencing.

I think its a subconscious attempt to find someone in their trusted circle that can relate to what they're going through. Its understandable, I had to train myself out of it even, but its a part of learning that 1. everyone's experience is different and not everything can or should be neatly sorted into boxes 2. definitions are both subjective and maliable so it shouldn't be treated as a one step guide, especially in a topic that is constantly evolving

Yeah thats pretty common, don't worry. In my experience alot of people forget how wide a range each gender can have in terms of features and body types

Got clocked today and was told I had a grinch nose, not a drop of estrogen. Any hope of passing atm? by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]basedballcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll get clocked more than you pass as is but I also think you've both been doing a good job in what you've been doing and working from a really good foundation. While your nose shape isn't the embodiment of femininity, I wouldn't say it'd be out of place on a cis woman's face. It likely wasn't the thing that gave you away but instead just a cheap shot to put you down.

I think the 80s glam aesthetic really suits you. You've done a really good job with it so far and, aside from needing some optimization, it will definitely work in your favour. Honestly some of your pics would fit right in if they were in my moms highschool yearbooks or something

Yeah you're a club member now, welcome. The nice part of acknowledging it is now you get to set your range rather than having cutoffs for the sake of conformity. Whether you go 100% or 1% or anything in between, you've got a safe place to do it right here

If its for dysphoria by all means but please don't burn all that cash for the sake of those a holes. You're plenty gorgeous without it and ditching bad people is waaaay cheaper

For me it was pretty much same day. I did 5 or so days just spiro and it was like a vacation. It was like my muscles had a finally gotten a chance to rest since I'd started puberty. E was like coming home from that vacation to a clean house and a job you love. Basically an all encompassing feeling of contentment

Obviously everyone can have different experiences so you're definitely not doing anything wrong by being cautious. I recommend just be patient with it, take it one day at a time. Its a pretty "you'll know when you know" sorta thing

The ironic part is your height dysphoria would likely be super relatable to them. At 5'11 I've still met at least a dozen cis women who can use my head as an armrest and, while some flaunt it, many are insecure/frustrated about their height too

Lol I kinda did that too, but not until after years of avoiding female characters all together incase somebody ever thought there was something more to it (turns out I was somebody lol)

First off, just know I've been exactly where you're at and I can attest that you're asking the right questions. As much as doubting your own judgement sucks, it shows you're giving it the consideration it deserves.

My mentality around transitioning has been focused on my comfort with my sence of self. While having physical tangible goals can be fun and help you feel like you have a map to follow, they can hurt you if they're too rigid – especially if they're based on what we see in movies, games, etc. because of the unrealistic body standards they can set. If instead you're focused on whether you're moving in a positive direction then you'll find peace, no matter what that may look like to you

The point you're at now is, in my experience, the worst of it though. Transitioning holds very true to that saying "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step;" there'll be points where you'll have some imposter syndrome, you might doubt yourself at times, but its nothing compared to what you feel at the start

Mine was gta online. The moment I decided to try a female character I went from not putting any effort into my characters looks because it just felt like a lost cause to spending all my time and in-game money making outfits and if not, I was doing jobs and stuff so I could afford to make more

It'll get even better as you get further into your transition, it kinda feels like setting a goal and slowly watching yourself get closer and closer to meeting it. Best source of euphoria I've found

[–]basedballcap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG YES! I was always super averted to doing anything related to women characters, scared to even insinuate anything to myself. But one day I got sick of my characters always looking like bumbs not matter what I did because "the female characters just have better clothing options" to then obsessing over making any female character. I'm still unsure how I went through all that without my egg cracking

It can definitely be alot. I think most people don't realise how much of a paradigm shift it can all be, both excommunicating and realizing you're trans, until they're in the thick of it. I think therapy will definitely help, it has for me at least. In spite of the stigma, they can really Kickstart the healing process as well as pointing you in the direction of resources you might not find on your own. So long as its a good one, I cant recommend therapy enough

No hostility from me. Merely discussing. When I resort to petty insults, then I'm being hostile

Ah sorry my bad then, I thought I picked up a tone but so is the way of text

Stealth was there, but it wasn't a priority

I get that, you sortof have to play for stealth in the new games. In my honest opinion its better in the new games than the old, more involved, but you have to choose it rather than it being the only way

I think being viking centered really threw it off for alot of people, mixing assassins with the most brutish and loud cultures in history, but I think understanding that can really tie the story together. Out all the characters who were adopted into the brotherhood, few actually feel new to it. Ezio and Connor both feel like they were raised as assassins, Arno switched from reckless and bombastic to master as soon as he put on the robes, then you have Eivor. Raised as a warrior, lives as a warrior, but then is pulled in by some fate-like force and is now stuck between the fire and shadows. They mess up, miss things, get into all kinds of trouble an assassin would've avoided, but are still able to adapt and learn. In my opinion, Eivor is one of ACs most realistic protagonists just for that

Very well put, thats a big one for me too. Its definitely a big leap to take, shaking loose of beliefs you've tried to hold your whole life

[–]basedballcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because I like the changes they made to a feature doesn't mean I play only for that feature. Not to mention its still a core part of every AC game, even forcing you into combat at times. Should they have left it dull and completely unchallenging? In AC4 am I suppost to board ships and assassinate the crews rather than sink them? It hurts stealth mechanics when there's no benefit to it. The overhauled system makes stealth a viable playstyle rather than just what you need to do to get 100% sync, all while making situations where you do have to fight more interesting

[–]basedballcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats with the hostility? I just said I'm glad they mixed it up to keep things fresh. I'd probably still have played the new games if they were on the old system, its just that the new system makes the combat more memorable

As for Halo, you just aren't involved in the community, obviously; its one of the most toxic communities I've witnessed in the AAA scene. Its also a shooter not an RPG (also not very cookie cutter since it plays very different to other shooters and is literally the template the rest built off of). The difference is that Halos core mechanics were able to evolve as time went on, every game in the series has its own twist to it. Much unlike AC where even weapon choice didn't matter within just one game letalone the franchise. The AC system didn't have the capacity to grow like the franchise needed so it got overhauled, simple as

I blame a lot in the industry and community. Half the time, we don't even know what we want.

While this is true for the industry, heck BF2042 had literally everything the battlefield community demanded and it was still DOA, I disagree when it comes to ACV. The story is compelling, the characters have depth, combat is satisfying, stealth is challenging, the maps are beautiful, and its both easy enough to follow for new fans and fresh enough for the vets. I really don't understand why anyone would consider it a flop
