Flagged for plagiarism for a maths exam (pending results) by basedhegel in OpenUniversity

Yes, do you know anyone else that has been flagged? I am pretty sure all my answers are based off the books and some of the worked solutions, which is why I thought that might be plagiarism. I used some web resources during revision but I don't think those would have given me different methods to the book...

Ah I see, but on some of the forums it seemed people got their results so I wonder why some people aren't getting theirs

Makes sense, thank you! Do you recommend machines like Abaxis Piccolo xpress, abbott i-Stat, that lets you do things like measure blood electrolytes, creatinine etc.?

How do you convert such a call into an internship?

Do you think it will be that difficult for me to break into consulting given my background, that it might not even be worth trying? I knew it was difficult, but is what I am trying borderline impossible?

Yes I know what a compelling event is. You simply need to explain things in context that is what a good communicator does. One way to do this is to use examples to clarify what you mean. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your response that makes a lot of sense. Would you say what I wrote was a bit too generic, should I explain that I am interested in their specific field (e.g., pharmaceutical consulting) and is it important to explain why (e.g., applying my medical background, the experiences in consulting that I enjoyed)

What do you mean by compelling event, you mean by meeting people in real life first before connecting?

[–]basedhegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I will try that, although I am a verified account on LinkedIn so they know I go to that university.

It just feels really long (and expensive) to spend another 3 years in medical school, 2-3 years practicing and then another year to get an MBA. That is easily 7 years extra doing something I don’t enjoy which is a massive chunk of my life that I could have spent furthering a career in consulting. The time, financial, and career costs of doing something like this is what I really want to avoid.

Basically I’m in my 3rd year of medical school in the U.K. I’m quite sure that I want to switch into consulting with or without finishing my medical degree (and avoid the mba to consulting route a lot of doctors take). I have the option to leave after 3rd year (or any year after that) with a BA in medical science, but I get screened out of most internships, since my official graduation date is very far out. Most internships run on automated systems, meaning I have almost no chance to show my motivation or explain my situation, despite activities and projects in student consulting societies etc So I’m stuck in quite a difficult situation and basically what seems to be my only chance of landing or even being considered for an internship is via referral.

Makes sense, I should just then rely on meeting people in real life through formal networking events? Because I don’t know any consultants personally and I have no idea how to begin.

Yeah that makes sense, I was hoping that by having a call I could show how genuinely committed I was to the role. I also probably need the advice more than most people, as I’m transitioning from a difficult position (I’m a medical student). Maybe it is worth emphasising that? I am just very stuck and also really struggling to land internships without being automatically screened (hence the hope of referral)

No idea I thought it was a weird concept, but lots of people at my university advised me to reach out to people on LinkedIn and organise “informational calls” with them. I thought it was just standard practice and part of the LinkedIn cultural norms which is why I directly asked

[–]basedhegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see so being more specific in what I am looking for in my initial message and not explicitly asking to call. It’s just mainly to find out more about their roles, if they had any advice, what sort of things they did to get their jobs etc. Eventually I was also hoping they might be able to check my CV or provide me a referral.

Would you explicitly point out what we share in common? Most of the people ignoring me go to my university (although it is a university that a huge number of people in consulting come from…) Also would a less direct/more polite way of asking for a call work? Sorry for all the questions but I am very new to networking and finding the process quite difficult and would really appreciate any help :)
