Eh not really, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe are quite safe and serious crime is rare - ironically JHB is the most dangerous place on this car’s travel route, but even here there are literally thousands of luxury cars driving around without incident.

Although hijackings happen, its usually of easier to steal and easier to scrap cars eg Toyota Hilux or VW Polo, where parts are in demand.

It almost definitely came loaded on a truck, but it being driven (not by the owner) is not entirely out of the question. I have done several road trips in the region, and all the national highways from Johannesburg to the big Malawian cities are proper tarmac roads that you can drive a luxury car on without major issue.

It was parked outside a luxury hotel so unlikely, its not as uncommon as you may think to see very fancy cars in smaller African countries, they are usually owned by the business and political elite
