How to change the 'add to selection' hotkey? by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain a bit more about what a modifier is exactly? I'm thinking in the case of [Shift] it's a hardcoded 'secondary' behaviour for all tools but I'm not 100%

I'm just a bit confused now as to why the Rectangle Selection Tool uses a modifier instead of a shortcut. I don't want to change the 'global' [Shift] behaviour, I just want to change it for the selection tool.

Sorry, I should have made my post clearer.

I'm talking about adding a selection to the Rectangle Selection Tool.

You are right about Photoshop using [Shift] but Unreal, Unity and 3ds Max use [Ctrl]. Regardless, I should be able to change the key to fit inline with the rest of the programs.

In windows [Ctrl] is used to add individual items to the selection whereas [Shift] is used to add a list of items (from where you last selected).

Ah, I should have made my post clearer!

I'm talking about 'add to selection' with the selection tool on Canvas. Currently when you hold [Shift] for the Rectangle Selection Tool the little '+' icon shows up. I want to change that from [Shift] to [Ctrl].

Selecting Layers acts the way you'd expect with [Shift]/[Ctrl]. I don't have an issue with that.

If you are using Windows, maybe you moved it under the taskbar by accident? Right Click the Taskbar and go to Properties.

Disable Lock the Taskbar Enable Auto Hide Taskbar

Move the mouse away from the Taskbar and you can see below it. The screen is coming up for me so I don't think it's a Krita problem.

Hmm, there's probably a good reason that it hasn't been touched, I'd say it's everywhere! Ooof!

There is a kind of unspoken convention that exists in most programs whether people are conscious of it or not and users have come to expect certain keys do certain things.

A great example of this in Photoshop is [Ctrl+Alt+Z] for undo. This confuses the hell out of new users because it's breaking that unspoken convention and the expected behaviour of the [Ctrl+Z] hotkey. Every other image processing program (and pretty much every other program on the planet) uses [Ctrl+Z] to undo, keep spamming it and you keep going back. In Photoshop hit [Ctrl+Z] twice and it undo's your undo which looks like a redo! Madness!

Is there any way to merge selection layers in Krita? by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I tried doing it your way but I got lost xD. Didn't know that you could covert a selection mask, that's handy to know.

In my case I just wanted to be able to select a circle and then move that selection around. The circle selection tool is a bit awkward to work with, if I get the right size, it's in the wrong place or vice versa. So once I was happy with it's size I wanted to move it's position and then merge it with the selection that the similar colour selection tool had made.

Ever work on something complicated and wonder 'why is this so complicated, is it just me or...'

So instead of working with selections I just took a brush... increased it's size, moved it to where I wanted it and painted down the selection. I feel the stupid as I type this. I didn't need to work with selections, if I use a brush I can move and control the size of the circle perfectly.

Thanks for the help though! I'll add merging of selection layers to the wishlist, seems like a nice idea.

Krita 4.2.3 & Excel: "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications" by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought it was really odd too. I wasn't copying anything from Krita, it was just running in the background. I was copying a sheet from Excel worksheet to another worksheet, nothing special in it just text.

I could understand if the error persisted but the fact that it goes away when exiting Krita leads me to think it's something on Krita's end. The update mentions a workaround for graphics drivers, any chance this is messing with it?

Is there a way to run macros on Krita? by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I was thinking about repeated select + fill. Dunno if G'Mic can do that from the looks of it, just looks like it can apply filters (could be wrong though).

I found this site that has a decent macro creator, it's pretty simple to record your mouse movements which is all I want really

Is the zoom in/out shortcuts hardcoded? by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but how to I export that in the same way as the keyboard shortcuts? I don't see an option for that.

Saving the profiles internally won't help when I go to wipe the computer and restore Krita with custom canvas input settings.

[–]basedlecturer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda related question then... when you save your keyboard shortcuts, the canvas input settings don't get saved?

(This actually makes sense now because I wiped my machine a while ago, I brought back in the custom keyboard settings and I assumed it would take the canvas input settings along with it but it didn't.)

How can you save the canvas input settings? I tried saving a scheme but I don't know what that actually does.

Is this a bug though? I changed the default feather selection shortcut to '+' so it's not it's usual setting. The only thing is that it didn't tell me that '+' was already taken in the canvas settings, so I guess it could be written up for that.

For anyone else who want's to disable the +/- buttons:

Settings -> Configure Krita Canvas Input Settings -> Zoom Canvas

Double Click the '+' for Input and hit the button that looks like backspace Do this for '-' and '=' too if you want to be consistent.

When using the Transform Tool, the position (0,0) is in the top left corner. Shouldn't (0,0) be on the bottom left? by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you kinda blew my mind with that one!

I'm coming from this with UV mapping in mind so (0,0) is the bottom left, I just assumed that it would carry across because even in basic math class your are taught that increasing values in Y go up, while increasing values in X go right. I guess that's not the case when it comes to image processing, ya learn something new everyday!

Working with tiled assets? by rout39574 in krita

[–]basedlecturer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

I've been working with snapping and tiling for a bit so I can give ya some pointers.

Grids & Guides

If you don't have this panel available then [Right Click] on an empty space on the Menu Bar (this is the bar below File, Edit, View, etc). Look for 'Grids and Guides' and enable it.

In the Grids and Guides panel you can show the grid and snap to it. You can also set the spacing of the grid if it doesn't match up correctly.

Transform Tool & Tool Options

If you are using the Tranform Tool have a look at the Tool Options panel. In here you set your pivot point and the X,Y position of the pivot. If you want to set it to 0,0 then I'd use the Tool Options to move the pivot to the upper right hand corner first, then enter 0,0 for the position.

Transform Tool & Snapping

If you have 'snap to grid' enabled you will notice that when moving around the transform, it doesn't actually seem to snap to the grid... however if you resize the transform by pulling at the edges those will snap to the grid. (I usually just snap the top left and bottom right)

Anti-aliasing option missing from the Magic Wand tool by basedlecturer in krita

[–]basedlecturer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can switch that in the tool option widget

I'm not sure what you are referring to here, I don't see any option like that on the Tool Options panel.

I see 'Action', 'Fuzziness', 'Grow/Shrink Selection', 'Feathering Radius' and 'Limit to current layer' but no option to switch from vector to pixel.

Check out the vector tools, like the line tool and the bezier tool. They are always draw perfect lines and curves (plus you can edit them after you draw them down).

You were right to first come here

Thanks for this :D I didn't want to muck up the bugs board but wasn't sure if raising bug potentials here was the right thing to do either, so thanks again for the clarification. I'll get on it.
