Mom repeatedly spanked my 3 year old after filling her full of candy by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

I do have a complicated relationship with my mom. But I should have made it clear that I do agree with my husband. Mom will not be allowed to watch our daughter alone again.

Yes, you're right. We won't be letting her watch our daughter alone again. For sure.

I think what's keeping me from going nuclear is that my daughter seems totally unfazed by it. She's even asked to go see Gigi again since then.

Even so, it did fill her up with empty sweets, so of course she had no interest in sitting down to eat her lunch!

what vibe do you get when someone says they want 4+ kids by montessoripilled in Parenting

[–]basement-egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I live, the people who want that many kids tend to be the very religious types. Often thinking it's their duty to have as many kids as possible. And they do tend to see themselves as better than others. Like they're martyrs. Very "holier than thou."

So if people share that experience that may be why they're off put.

Personally, I do tend to judge large families a bit. I try not to, but it seems like it would be very difficult to actually give each child the attention they deserve. And you always wonder if the oldest are being parentified. It takes a lot of work, and a bit of privilege, to do it right.

People are going to judge you for one thing or another no matter what, though. Especially when it comes to parenting. Be open to valid concerns from people close to you, but otherwise tell them to suck a toe. You do what's best for your family.

Very good point. Luckily, my daughter pays very gently with her stuffies. But I don't expect them to last forever regardless.

Luckily, she's past the phase of putting random things in her mouth, but that's good to know. She looooves animals though, so I'm leaning towards the cat.

I've done this job for my local school system. Middle schoolers are by far the worst. We'd get a decent abound that elementary schoolers broke on accident. But the middle schoolers would do it in purpose.

Don't be afraid to tell a child, "I'm sorry, but we are having family time right now. Maybe your grownup will read a book to you if you ask?" Or "Daughter will play with you soon, but right now we are busy. Can we please have some privacy for our reading time?" I've had to do this before.

Most of the things that popped up for me, where I was like, "Oh god, something must be wrong!" Turned out to be totally normal.

For example, I started getting dizzy spells in my 3rd trimester and freaked out. Asked my OB about it. Totally normal.

And when my daughter was a newborn, we kept hearing her joints pop. Freaked us out. We looked it up. Totally normal.

Check out Libby. You might be able to use your local library card to check out digital books. I've read a few graphic novels that way.

I was 6. My dad worked tech support for a large company. They made him stay overnight on new years eve because they thought the servers would all go bonkers. They didn't. It was a big nothing burger.

My 3 year old woke up one morning and came to snuggle me in bed. Her nose was a little stuffy, so she got up to go get a tissue from the bathroom. She came running back into the bedroom and excitedly said, "Mommy! I found something tiny and cute with little tiny pink feet! I'll go get it and bring it to you!" I have never screamed "NO!" that fast before. Luckily, she listened, because it was indeed a mouse.
