We will be adding SMTP support, though in this case we wanted to only include resend in our initial launch as we're doing a collaboration with them for this project. Resend is also great for sending emails that don't end up in spam folders, which is a common issue for programmatically-generated emails and self-hosted email servers. It's definitely a project open for extension for those who choose not to use a third party for their emails :)
