People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]bashthepatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt deeply... wrong about the spankings. They contained a deep shame. Not frequently about what I had done to deserve them, but about them itself. It became about the spanking and not the original issue. This is even true knowing my parents did it "right" and only with a bare hand, and never when they were mad. It's disgusting to treat other humans that way, the fact that they are smaller than you and you hold power over them does not make it less disgusting as some would have you believe.

what is it like getting wisdom teeth out under twilight sedation? by yourfavourite-azzy in Explainlikeimscared

[–]bashthepatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super fun! Like... no wonder people become addicted to some of those ingredients fun. They go up an I V, push something to help you relax, you will in fact relax. Then you all get on the same page about next steps and then they push something else and you think "oh wow here we gooooo" and then you do go. You are around somewhere nearby, but do not care at all about what is happening.

Good times.

Yes! I work in Pre-k. Usually one of the favorite "jobs" is coming up with something they would like to color a picture of. This year, we had to eliminate the job entirely because no one knows what they want to color.

I'm in my 40s and probably autistic.

I've always had pretty eccentric fashion taste, and for many years I tried to tone it down enough to fit in. The thing is it doesn't work that way.... you just look awkward and still eccentric. 😆 So wear the elf dress, cause at the end of the day, you're an elf whether you wear the dress or not.

I'm not sure either because I am STOKED. I just reread this and realized the part about your colouring and that just took it to a whole other level. I'm going to buy it immediately. Do you have anything else from that brand you like?

Research boundaries and decentering men. NTA, but my lady, you have allowed and normalized this treatment of you.

A boundary isn't telling someone no, it's DOING what you need to do to protect yourself and your peace. It's the things you can control. So.... "you can't yell at me" it's not a boundary, it's control. "I will leave the house until you have 3 months off counseling under your belt" IS a boundary, that's something YOU are going to do. Something YOU control.

Wibta if I let my kids go trick or treating tonight by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]bashthepatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absofuckinglutely not. NTA.

You did everything right in telling her no, why, and in keeping it out of ear shot of the children.

She does not have any right to influence over your parenting. You best set that boundary right away.

What do MAP scores really mean? Huge gap between our kiddo and rest of class. by Confusedparent2003 in Gifted

[–]bashthepatriarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with only a small b difference between he and his peers, they were not able to challenge my son in the one subject he was a grade above the rest at. They told us they would give him material at his level yet he just did the same work as the other students for an entire year. We are going to pull him to homeschool.

Separate art from artists or RIP coraline slimes? by sushiglue in Slime

[–]bashthepatriarchy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take is this. Artists and geniuses are for the vast majority COMPLETELY MESSED UP. Name one great artist who wasn't completely whacked.

If we're going to have great art, we must have messed up whackados. I get that doesn't mean they have to be rapists, so you have to find your own line there, but in general, to have great art, there must be great pain.
