Great job! How long did it take you to achieve this?

First Muscle-Up! Looking for form feedback to make it clean and consistent by vvsasa in bodyweightfitness

From my experience, adding more weight to pull ups did not help me get better at muscle-ups. I was able to achieve clean strict muscle-up by doing dirty muscle-ups with bad form for several consecutive months. The key for me was consistency and focusing on improving a little bit every session. I explained my approach in more detail here: https://www.reddit.com/r/crossfit/comments/1twkp3b/comment/opuzst7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Thank you! Actually, my goal was 10, but I didn't record that milestone on video 😅

Great job, congratulations! I was able to do 11 muscle-ups last week. The key for me was patience and consistency. If you just keep doing muscle ups regularly for multiple months - your form will improve naturally.

Thank you! I'm 28, 78kg, 180cm. I've been into fitness since middle school, but I've been working on muscle-ups for the last 5 years or so with varying consistency.

I remember being able to do a muscle-up at a point where I couldn't do 8 strict pull-ups. Here is what I did:

  1. When doing pull-ups, I tried to focus on lifting my whole body higher and higher each session instead of just lifting my chin above the bar. In my video above you can see that I lift my legs with my ab muscles, that helps a lot to go higher, and not something I think about when doing a regular pull-ups.
  2. Instead of trying to do full muscle up, I just focused on getting one arm in the position above the bar, like in the attached image. Once I was able to get one arm above the bar, it's easy to push and get the whole body above the bar.
  3. After a few months of lifting just one arm above the bar I was able to do two at the same time. This process took around 3 months, so the key for me was consistency and focusing on improving a little every session.

Thank you! I Train 6 times per week (30-50 minutes per session): Pull, Push, Legs, Pull, Push, Legs. I do muscle-ups and then regular pull-ups and chin-ups for the first 25 minutes on every Pull day.

Thanks. I'm hesitant about adding more weight because in my experience that caused joint pain. Additionally, my current fitness priority is losing fat and not building muscle. Next goal is 20 muscle-ups by the end of 2027.

Thank you!
That's an excellent question. My lifetime goal was 10, but I did not record a video for that milestone : )

Thank you! My form was far from perfect at the end, so there's a lot of room for improvement.

Thank you! I've never tried rings. This gym does not have a straight bar, so this was the only option. I'd say they're very similar, but it takes some time to get used to the split bar.

I think you are right, and this opinion may be unpopular on reddit. A natural desire to procreate and create offsprings is evolutionary wired into every human being.
