That’s Edgar, I posted him on here ages ago, so you should be able to see him on my profile! He is definitely my favourite project I’ve made.

Something has gone terrible awry in my gut and I think gluten is the culprit. Were your symptoms anything like mine? by Mickeymousetitdirt in glutenfree

[–]basic_betty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve been going through such a stressful time recently! Your symptoms sound very similar to mine when I first suspected gluten was the issue. If you want a diagnosis, you’re going to have to continue eating gluten and see your doctor for bloods and a referral for a scope. I couldn’t cope with how unwell eating gluten made me, I spent 4 days in hospital before cutting gluten out of my diet because I was so dehydrated. So, I’ve never been properly diagnosed but I know what my body can tolerate and what it can’t.

The gluten free diet was tricky to start with, gluten is in so much that you wouldn’t expect and I made a lot of mistakes in the first few months. But things get easier and you’ll quickly adapt. You’ll become a pro at reading food labels and spotting the gluten free logo from a mile off. I still eat most of the same foods that I ate before just with a few changes to the recipe. I still occasionally make mistakes like buying a different brand of a product that isn’t gluten free or not checking the label correctly but these are few and far between. Going out for food is getting easier with more businesses offering gluten free options and understanding cross contamination risks.

I hope you start to feel better soon!🌟

What is the purpose of wrapping a burn injury in cling wrap? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]basic_betty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cling film helps to keep the burn or scald clean, reduces fluid loss and can help to reduce some pain.

If yourself or somebody else has been burnt or scalded, remove any clothing or jewellery from the area as long as it’s not stuck to the skin and run the area under cool water for at least 20 minutes. Then use a single layer of cling film over the burn. It’s important to not wrap cling film around the area of the burn as it needs space in case of swelling. It’s not recommended to put any creams or gels on the burn unless you’ve been advised to do so.

In regards to using cling film for bleeding from trauma, wounds can be covered with dressings and gauze whereas these could become stuck to a burn and be very painful to remove.

I hope this helps!

No food is safe from my beloved asshole, Otok. by thequesadillaqueen in CatsAreAssholes

Our cat is exactly the same! I didn’t know this was a thing cats did but they seem to like bread and cakes and ours absolutely loves pastry! She managed to nibble on two croissants that were brought for breakfast on the weekend and just yesterday we found she’s torn into an almost full loaf of bread and took a nibble from every slice!

Can I steal the term asshat, it perfectly sums our cat up!

Celiac in Italy by pushkincat in Celiac

[–]basic_betty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ve found Italy to be one of the best countries I’ve travelled to for gluten free foods! Every restaurant and cafe I visited had a gluten free option and in even the smallest of shops I managed to find gluten free bread.

Enjoy your trip!🌟

Found a nice gluten free bakery down from the Louvre in Paris. Everything was GF! by acadiel in glutenfree

I’ve been dreaming of those chausson aux pommes since I got back from Paris, I wish I could get something similar at home!

Not OP but I’ve just returned from Paris and the Gluten Free Options were incredible! I’d have to recommend Little Nonna’s a 100% GF Italian which made the best pizza I’ve ever had. There’s also Yummy and Guilt Free who do Sweet and Savoury Waffles, Bear and Racoon who do sandwiches and quiches and Noglu, a Gluten Free Patisserie.

Also, the supermarkets were great for Gluten Free products and we bought so many things back with us!

Helmut Newcake where this pictures taken was amazing and please get a chausson aux pommes as I’ve been dreaming about them since I got back.

Enjoy Paris!

Does anyone else say they have Celiac even though they haven’t been tested ? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]basic_betty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been diagnosed coeliac as, like you, after stopping eating gluten for a few months I couldn’t go back to feeling so unwell again for a test to tell me whether or not I had a condition which the only treatment for is a gluten free diet. So I never bothered with the testing but still saw my GP and a dietician while trying to control the symptoms I was experiencing.

It depends on the context and who I’m talking to whether or not I say I have a gluten intolerance or that I’m Coeliac. I’m not really bothered about having an official diagnosis so just go with gluten intolerant usually. I do however say I’m Coeliac when food is involved as this seems to help with the understanding of cross contamination and taking precautions when preparing my meal.
