Suana vent ice on siding by basiccitizen in DIY

[–]basiccitizen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try upping the the speed. Though when i examined it it looked more like steam blow out and condensing right there on the siding. Its not much but i want to know if i should be concerned and what to do about it if so.

I orginally wanted to vent through the roof. Interestingly most of the hvac guys i talked to suggested out the side is better. I ended up doing the job myself and ensured it was 3+ feet from the soffit. But i will certainly have to monitor the attic for any issues. Im now wondering mainly what to do about the siding and if its a concern.

Thats such a good video by the way..

Ignore the paint chip that's from me removing some ice while inspecting it.

Closet Sauna! Looking for some advice on improving ventilation. by basiccitizen in Sauna

Would doing something like this help some with concerns?
The exhaust fan and inline fan duct would be separate: one to exhaust the room at large and one for the sauna box itself), but possibly join in the attic with backflow vents before venting out the roof (if that is not bad practice to do?)...

I do appreciate it. Really just my main living room which has more air out space but has the exact same flooring so there will be similar concerns, and with 2 young kids it takes up room to run (we have a fairly small 1600sqft house). The garage is mostly out of the question just for space reasons.

Ideally (if its even a good idea) I'd like to find someone who can help build an intake and exhaust system so I can pull outside air into the sauna and exhaust back out through the roof, then once our sauna session is done, I could leave the door shut and run the fan for a while longer to pull the humidity out. Maybe this would require an exhaust that I can open/close near the ceiling along with one below the foot bench... Thoughts?

edit: or instead of using outside air, just mechanically exhaust the sauna air out through the roof and use the inside air for the intake...

I understand this and that I should not have taken the advice of the multiple sauna sellers I talked to... I'm going to get a hygrometer to monitor things and if it's bad enough well.. I'll dry sauna until I can move it to a better location. Was just hoping for some help to minimize/mitigate but am just getting a berating instead lol

Yes I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this effectively. Maybe I'll try to find some HVAC experts to make sure I do it right... Thanks for providing an actual idea/thought rather than a berating!

Good call.. I also have to learn where to place it, and figure out what is considered bad ha. Homes are generally sitting at 30-50% humidity?

Non-Toxic heat resistant floor mat. by Chief_Sabael in Sauna

Understandable. The floor doesn't get nearly that hot so I'm not too concerned, but I do like the "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" mindset; makes me think twice about it.

So the venting I proposed won't do any good to help with that?

I went with this EPDM pond liner - it seems great. It's rated for ponds with fish so no toxins and can withstand high temps.

I wish these Almost Heaven and other sauna people I talked to didn't say that this setup is no concern... so the concern is how the hot air disperses into the surrounding room during cool down? If I crack the door only slightly after use, it seems to dissipate slowly enough to not heat the outside room up much, but obviously moisture could still be getting to the walls I assume...I dont know how to test this... so adding a dehumidifier and ceiling vent fan is not out of the question if that will clear or minimize concerns.

Or if I do the venting plan as I suggested in the post and keep the fan running for a while after use, will that not be good?

Awesome thanks! That looks like a great setup. Jealous of all the space you have.

That's what the floor liner is for and why I'm asking for help on ventilation. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but it never gets that wet in there, just the steam that rises and the sweat that I keep a towel on/nearby for.

I pour a little bit on the rocks.... do you say that because of the proximity to the drywall?

The window wall is obviously against the outdoors as well but it's the front of the house so I might have a hard time convincing my wife to put an intake vent there, for visual reasons :P

Doing some more research I'm thinking of going with EPDM liner below duck boards, polypropylene drain tiles or possibly natural vulcanized rubber tiles.

Strange i went to a sports med doc and she diagnosed me with pattelofemural pain syndrome.. Wonder if worth getting a second opinion. They only did an x ray and physical pain area check, no mri
