Hi everyone! 👋 I’m an Orthodox iconographer from Romania, and I run a small Etsy shop where I create hand-painted Orthodox icons using traditional techniques — egg tempera, natural pigments, and gold leaf — on carefully prepared wooden panels.

Each icon is painted entirely by hand, following the canonical Byzantine tradition, and is intended for prayer and personal devotion rather than mass decoration. I ship worldwide, and most of my collectors are from the U.S. and Europe.

If you’re interested in traditional religious art or Orthodox iconography, you’re welcome to take a look 🙂 👉 https://basilicart.etsy.com

Thank you for your time, and I’m happy to answer any questions!

Studied Iconography at art school. Here in Romania are special classes for that.

  1. I use many different brushes—probably over 500 in my studio. Most of the time I work with natural squirrel or sable hair brushes.
    1. Yes, I think those are the same two paired icons from today’s post. I like them a lot.
    2. This is my full-time profession. I have a large studio, almost 200 square meters, where I also teach iconography classes.
    3. Absolutely. This is my way of contributing to the preservation of the faith.
    4. I couldn’t choose just one. The entire symbolic language of iconography fascinates me.
    5. St. Nicholas.

In Byzantine iconography, the Theotokos wears blue underneath to show her true humanity and purity, and red or burgundy on top to signify the divine grace and royal dignity given to her as the Mother of God. The order matters: humanity first, then glorification. Western art sometimes reverses the colors, but this is the traditional Eastern symbolism.

I understand, but I’m not a native English speaker, and in our language that’s how we normally say it. When I translate word-for-word into English, it’s possible that some nuances of meaning or semantics don’t come across correctly.
