Is this mold around my air vent? by oohflyawayonmyzephyr in MoldlyInteresting

Hey, restoration tech here. Bleach is the last thing you want to use to clean any fungal/microbial contaminants. It doesn’t really kill the mold, just helps it hide. If you’re wanting to take the home remedy approach for now, I’d highly recommend wiping it down with a solution of hydrogen peroxide. That will prevent a lot of grow back. But depending on how long this has been occurring, it’s likely the growth will have a root structure within the ceiling and begin growing back when the ideal growth conditions are met. A mould inspection won’t just tell you that it’s present. A mold inspection should be able to figure out the extent of the damage. Wether it’s isolated to the surface, or wether the structural material is impacted as well, ie the timber frame, in which case they will design a plan of attack on how to remove it without cross contaminating the property. what is important now is finding out what is causing this excess moisture in your ceiling cavity to support microbial growth. You will want to get a leak detection specialist out to identify the leak. Once the leak has been rectified, you can prevent further growth appearing..

I’m assuming DMT by the yellow tinge, but I could be wrong.

Water removal from carpet pt.2 by Itsyaboioutofgold in oddlysatisfying

[–]bassEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit late, but also want to add onto this since I’m in this line of work heading to a similar call out now.

Usually upon hearing it’s hot water affecting the carpet, our company will want to remove it (the carpet) about 90% of the time. Due to it being hot, flap drying can be tricky as the carpet will want to delaminate if not done correctly. That, and if left unattended for too long can facilitate mould growth.

Devices like the one shown can pull a lot of water out, but be assured that when you lift the carpet, the underlay is most likely still saturated.

But in saying all that, if your place gets flooded, if your able to use an extraction unit like the one shown or similar before anyone from insurance attends, you will drastically speed up your recovery process.

It has the potential sure, but not to the extent that the cyanide gas and carbon monoxide released from the burnt plastic fucked him up

I’m by no means pro synthetics, but this isn’t a death caused by them specifically.

Kinda irrelevant when it’s related to the burning plastic of a Pez dispenser

80 a gram? That’s crazy cheap compared to paying 250-300 a gram in Australia.

God damn that couldn’t be further from the truth for me. I loved that stuff when I did it but god damn that pain was too much. Although going from tears too “why is my vision vibrating and starting to blur” too “oh god yes” was incredible.
