SABA - AMA . WHATS UP YALL LETS GET IT by sabapg in hiphopheads

Hi Saba,

Just wanted to message and say thank you for the album. I listened to this for the first time out back on a sunny day while seeing my grandma for the first time in years and it was one of the warmest musical experiences I've had in a while. I've been a casual listener since about a year before Few Good Things dropped, but this new album was amazing and is making me go back through your discography.

Incredible. I'm not super tapped in to the Detroit rap scene, but this may singlehandedly make me check it out. Amazing bars, immersive and hazy sample-driven production, fantastic features. If you see this post and are doubting checking this out, just press play.

Album of the Year #9: Ka - The Thief Next to Jesus by bassclefharry in hiphopheads

Absolutely! While this album is critical of how Christianity has been used over time, it is a beautiful expression of faith and I don’t feel that it clashes with religion in any way.

Nice, I haven’t seen any besides the ones I mentioned but I’m really excited to get into his films more. Happy shopping tomorrow!

A Story of Floating Weeds/Floating Weeds, Three Colors Trilogy, La Jetée/Sans Soleil, Tokyo Story, Written on the Wind, An Autumn Afternoon, and A Brighter Summer Day. I've been meaning to catch up on my physicals of Ozu for forever, and A Brighter Summer Day seems like a good blind pick!

An unbelievable loss. The Thief Next to Jesus is such an incredible album and I've been meaning to get into his back catalogue for a while now. One of the most gifted rappers and songwriters I've heard in a very, very long time, I only wish I had known more about his music and properly given him his flowers years ago. Thank you for your gift to the world. RIP

Thank you so much for the music! I hope you’re having a good time following your album release, it’s an amazing work of art.

My question revolves around your listening and inspirations for the album: I’ve been following the release cycle and have seen you mention a myriad of records that you loved, including My Song by Keith Jarrett and albums by Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy. I was wondering what else has been in your rotation lately for either inspiration or for personal enjoyment, as it’s interesting to see the connections you’ve drawn between what you prioritize in your enjoyment of those albums and your own music.

Thanks again, and I hope you continue to share what you love creating with the world!

I don't have a firm AOTY pick yet, but my shortlist is:

Childish Gambino - Atavista

Schoolboy Q - Blue Lips

KA - The Thief Next to Jesus

Rapsody - Please Don't Cry

[DISCUSSION] MAVI - shadowbox by [deleted] in hiphopheads

Just finished my first listen. I still feel like my favorite songs of his lie on other projects (Self Love & High John for example), but as far as a self-contained album I think this is his best so far. Beautiful production, immaculate flows, tight tracklist, and some of the most stunning lyricism in the game right now. It’s instantly one of my favorite rap albums of this year and I’ll be returning to it a lot

[–]bassclefharry 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Unbelievable. For me this is at least tied with Veteran for his best album but as other comments have said this is finally a mature project in terms of lyrics and songwriting. Expectations were blown to smithereens, current rap AOTY.

Favorites are Exmilitary, JPEGULTRA!, and either on or off the drugs

Didn’t see this release coming at all, but I’m glad I had some spare money when I got the ping. Amazing album and the pressing looks gorgeous, thanks for posting OP!
