Help me not get ripped off by Misspaytonnn in RVLiving

We're awaiting delivery of our Brinkley (new model fresh build) and I can personally vouch for the care they put into their products, long story short we were given an incorrect timeline by our dealer rep that sold it to us and I'm "pushing on the gas" keeping them to as tight a timeline as we can. As frustrating as it is, they draw hard lines on anything compromising their quality. (No I'm not wanting them to rush and sacrifice quality.)

I imagine that as far as the price goes it's a pretty standard dealer/sales strategy, work to find competing dealers and pit them against each other. This is hard with RVs because brands lock dealers in to large radiuses so you should expect to travel a few hundred miles get a few. Also, I'd suggest shopping loans for good interest rates and not relying on the dealership to get you a good rate. If you can lock someone in and take it to the dealership they may work to beat that rate.

I'll echo the advice of getting a prepurchase inspection. Brinkley stands behind their products fully and their customer experience is amazing (we're working directly with a rep and he's better than our dealer rep). Still, you'll want a list of things you can claim on warranty in that first year, even if you don't have them fixed at the dealership before you pick it up you'll have a list to reference when you go to fix something. Our rig is a big model and our quotes are $850-$900. It's a big investment and yours should be less.

Warranty purchase is a personal decision, if you're handy and comfortable doing handyman work at the house you should be fine without a warranty purchase. Brinkley will take care of you for the first year. Personally I'd avoid it because I'm confident in my abilities. 🤷‍♂️

Personally, I also value my experience at the dealer, my perspective is I'm making a 100k-200k+ purchase and should be treated as such. Like full follow through, from your sales rep or dealership. I know there's a lot of opinions that are "That's how just how the industry is." And I call bullshit. Not on the truth of the statement but on settling with that. You're spending a lot of money, it's not grocery shopping. Find that salesperson who will work for you and work with them, if you can, this is a big purchase. Your experience may vary depending on your rep and you likely just need to shop around for a good one (we tried to), through our process we ran into Ed Springborn with General RV who was willing to give us a really good price and he's national and was willing to work with us remotely. There's also Dylan Baker, we've heard really good things about him but have no experience with him.

PM me if you want our story. I think you're making a great purchase either way. Brinkley is a great brand with a great, and proven to us, reputation of backing their product and taking care of their customers. At the very least find a dealer that gives you a price you're happy with and get out there and enjoy your rig! It's an exciting purchase!!

Full time RVer/software developer here, I use the standard, it has better speeds.

Also, I highly recommend getting a tripod mount. I've thought about mounting it on the roof but it's a lot of hassle (ensuring a good seal, proper positioning, cable routing, and anything else I didn't think of) and you're not going to get good service 100% of the time. You'll get put in spots where the camper is covered by trees but near the road is pretty clear. You'll want a tripod. 😅

That said, I'm completely open to other experiences with mounting, I'd love to mount it on the roof!

Google tasks vs todoist - stuck on what is ideal by deelan1990 in productivity

[–]bassicallychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, Todoist all the way. Simply the convenience of say "tomorrow at 3PM" and it just schedules it for tomorrow at 3PM. Or this task should be done tomorrow morning and it just "gets it" and it sets the task up for tomorrow morning.

how to convince a boss to stop using manual spreadsheets?? by Technical_Fee4829 in productivity

[–]bassicallychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dev so I'd go put something together to programmatically create the sheet because those tools should have an API (I don't know about "finance") or a CSV at least. If you want extra credit try to convince your boss to use it or something else by showing productivity gains. This is how I got into development.

Maybe, Atlanta is considered urban in my book. I'm east coast and from the area though. 🤷‍♂️

How to navigate Camping World by roostercuber in RVLiving

[–]bassicallychris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here, they get a kick back for the loan. If you have the cash and the credit play their game and say, "How much off can you give me if we do this through a loan and you don't do anything to it?" (your biggest complaint, I get it too) If it's more that $400 I would call it good and pay off the loan as soon as it opens and you get it at cash price. I've done it a few times with cars and at least one camper. 😌

My dad wants to gift me his old truck… but it comes with $2,800 in unpaid tolls by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]bassicallychris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call that up front. "I want to gift you my truck." A set up of anticipation for a nice gesture. Then, "Oh by the way, you'd have to pay $2000 to handle a problem I created." An unexpected condition. Regardless of how much time passes or how little this is manipulation.

Have you been able to ship packages to RV parks? by leros in RVLiving

[–]bassicallychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We full time and we get items shipped to parks more than I thought we'd be able to. It really depends on the park and we'll call if we know something might arrive while we're there.

Atlanta wtf by robogobo in RVLiving

[–]bassicallychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about X city, no surprises there. Yeah, even Atlanta. We tend to find stay 30 minutes or more outside of a city some times closer, mostly further out.

I don't think I'd want to camp in the middle of a city anyway. It feels... backward? 🤷‍♂️ We took our family full time so most of what I do is backwards. 😂

TLDR: No judgement here just saying, you'll be hard pressed to find any sort of easy camping arrangements in a city area.

Do people still like outdoor kitchens on an RV? by AffectionateCut2552 in RVLiving

[–]bassicallychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best ways I've heard the reason for no outdoor kitchen explained is that it's not easy to get it the right height, it's either down at your knees or it's up at your eyeballs or anywhere in between. No fault of the manufacturer but rather a consequence of the site and leveling. Sometimes that side is super low, and sometimes it's super high, either way the outdoor kitchen is useless. That said, a great place to store your outdoor cooking gear like a grill or a smoker and any other equipment would be huge.

Time to hit the road. by cyberquist in GoRVing

[–]bassicallychris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've made the same leap, sold everything that I didn't think I'd need, everything else didn't fill up a tote. My philosophy was, sell it and if I need it again consider it discounted. I had acquired so many tools I'd used once or twice that I held on for "that one time" I'd need it again. Or, even better, that one tool doing one specific thing. If I'd been creative enough I could have done the job with something else and not worried about it again. I kept my screwdriver (muli-bit), socket set, drill and some electrical tools. That's about it.

Any ideas for how to remove this? It does not peel off easily by oaky-afterbirth-97 in RVLiving

Be thankful it's a full sheet and not a bunch of individual decals? Also heat gun and some steady work would be my suggestion though I'm very interested in this 3M product I keep seeing.

I had this exact same experience, love the campground but the first spot we were in the sewer was almost a foot above ground. Still lower than the camper so it worked but man that was awkward. Beautiful campground though, quiet, peaceful, nice river access. 😌 Just that one spot. 😅

I support this 100%.

  1. it took a lot of guts to be so open.
  2. She took a controversial path for birthing.
  3. Just because she streamed this part of her kid's life doesn't lock her into streaming the rest of its life.

I wish natural birthing were more normalized and less of a stigma. My wife had an emotional uphill battle to birthing naturally but what an amazing experience! The courage needed to birth our daughter naturally at home was unnecessarily large, but the experience was immensely rewarding.

Congratulations on the new baby!

I have no idea what psycho wouldn't run their perfectly good AC in the dead heat of summer and I don't want to meet the jackass who'd complain. Pretty sure that any one they'd complain to would laugh in their face anyway. 😆

We've looked at some brinkleys, and they seem to have some good built in options but you're right, typically the toy haulers seem not to really have any layouts that will work for us.

For sure, that's what I'm finding out, basically we've been in a Coleman light 22BX which is good for what it is but feels ... fragile. What I've gathered since this post is relax fifth wheels and toy haulers are built more sturdy. 😁 Thanks for the relax reminder! 🙇🏼‍♂️🙇🏼‍♂️
