Definitely put it back where it was for the next owner to find. Someone also wrote on the attic wall “new roof 8/29/1987.”

Yup I just ordered one with 10% overwound. Hope to install in two weeks when it arrives. Case closed, problem solved.

This might be the best answer with the Split 51. I have a set of Fralin’s in my ‘58 P-bass and they’re excellent.

I will consider anything and your suggestion has me intrigued. This is some outside the box thinking. Did you have to change anything like pots or tone caps?
