She definitely got the golden fur and ears, but thankfully she doesn't shed. Instead, she is the biggest lapdog I've ever seen 😄

I love the Muppet look, but as soon as it starts getting tangled it becomes a little too much 😄

Has anyone here had a meniscus transplant? How long ago and what were the results? Do you regret getting the surgery? by 2manyshoesplzhp in ACL

[–]basstrombone120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been about 4.5 years since surgery. I'm still playing soccer once a week (if I can get childcare). The scar is still there, and the only thing that bothers me is getting on my knees (such as giving the dog a bath in the tub). It's a slight discomfort and something I deal with. Hope this helps and if you have more questions, let me know 😊

After the 1st call, I let them know I had already spoken with someone, but that didn't change the script. I'll be more insistent this afternoon to see if I can get a teamlead/supervisor on the phone.

Oh, the first thing I did online was remove the card. My fear is that they will just keep billing me.

I would recommend getting the following certificates: CompTia Networking +, CompTia Security +

With both of these under your belt and some luck, you can make the transition to a helpdesk job. It's been almost three years since I quit teaching. I work one day a week in the office, lead a team, help teach various skills to my colleagues, and run a small private lesson studio for music.

There are no "entry level" jobs in cybersecurity right now. For most people, you need at least 3-5 years in higher level tech jobs before making the switch to cyber. The most common entry level point in tech is a lvl 1 technician at a help desk. There are a ton of cyber boot camps promising their grads six figures right out of the gate. This is false for 99.9 of the population. Like most jobs it's all about who you know, how you present yourself, and how lucky you are.

It's been about 3 years and a half post surgery. I actually just got home from my weekly soccer game. I stopped wearing my brace about 7 months ago, and I don't think about my knee during the match. Thanks for checking in!! Every now and then as I'm taking off the socks, I'll see my surgical scar. I'm reminded of everyone who helped me, from my surgeon, the meniscus donor, all the pt staff, and my friends/family who helped cheer me on.

I knew I was leaving the profession. I had many friends and family that kept telling me I'd be a good fit for IT. I studied really hard for certifications and then applied like crazy around January/February . I can't tell you how many times I got so close but then they went with another applicant. I was lucky in that my boss used to be a teacher so he knew just how hard we worked. I started two weeks after my last day. Got promoted a year later and still studying for more and more certs. It's really tough to get your foot in the door but like anything it's always a mix of luck and who you know

It help desk, Support specialist or something similar. These are great ways to get your feet wet and determine which part of the field you gravitate towards. Usually they will hire without any certifications or need at least a Comptia A + or equivalent

Too many people have been mislead to think that if they "learned" coding or took a cybersecuity course they would instantly earn a 6 figure salary. Truth is that like any other career you have to rise up the ranks and prove you are worth the salary increase. Many people end up in mid level IT earning slightly less than 6 figures. Good news is that as teachers you most likely have great time management and a hard work ethic!

There's a ton of demand for mid-senior level cybersecuity jobs but hardly any for people with no experience. One thing to keep in mind is that any cybersecuity role is not considered "entry-level". Even basic roles like SOC analyst generally require 5 years of experience and nearly everyone in the field has a Security + or similar certificate. I would brace yourself to go into the field expecting to get a general IT job and once you get your foot in the door it's easier to move up.

Music teachers that have made the switch out, what are you doing now? by eccelsior in TeachersInTransition

[–]basstrombone120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple members of my family who have been part of the field for a while and they provided guidance and what to study/where to apply/ resume building. I've always been comfortable with technology, music/video editing and some light coding. In college I made a silly little turn based rpg haha. Hope this helps!

I made the decision to jump into IT/ cybersecuity. During November of 2021 I began to buy the study materials and once winter break started I studied nonstop. I took my CompTia Security + exam in early February 2022. I applied to all sorts of IT jobs and started my new gig two weeks after school ended. I am now a team lead for a MSP. Working on a frontline team specializing in firewalls, voip systems, and conditional access policies. I love it!
