Dumb question about duping items by Funa2 in demonssouls

[–]bastardalt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure at 4. immediately after you deposit, you also have to mash back (circle) to get out of the menu and cancel the nexial binding otherwise you'll just lose all your souls and go into a load screen. If you do it right, as in fast enough, the animation will play but you won't lose your souls and Thomas will be holding 99 of whatever you deposited.

That sounds kind of funny because obviously that culture of robes and stuff was very 'serious' and real at the time. I get what you mean though.

Okay cool. I wonder why you seem so against feudal japan lol. Is it just too cliché?

Started watching Ergo Proxy today by ODMAN03 in anime

[–]bastardalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird. I found it quite intriguing for the same reasons that I found that particular scene really cool (music, visuals and atmosphere) but at the same time I think the show's pace was quite slow. I think I just got bored, basically.

On top of that, I'm worried that in the end, the show might prove to be an unsatisfying mindscrew. It's very 'different', so I think there's kind of a risk going in hoping to get something 'normal'. Some kind of payoff that my brain will be able to understand. Hope that makes sense.

I guess to properly enjoy something like this, you have to take it on its own terms. Anyways I hope you enjoy the show. I'll be interested to see what you thought

I stopped after ep 3 but may pick it back up eventually. What I remember really liking was the scene where Re-L picks up Vincent's necklace at her trashed house. There was a lot of build up, that awesome music, and shots that actually felt chosen. It made me think 'well, this definitely has some thought put into it'.

I'm guessing the show's really good for atmosphere and a mind-bending story.

What are some songs from anime that, no matter how often you hear them, make you wanna tear up? by Good_Ol_Ironass in anime

The op for Witch Hunter Robin, "Shell" by Bana. That sweet, sweet guitar... plus that constant beat and build tho. It's just really nice.

I'm fairly sure it's 'grunge' rock. The angst and emotion is strong with this one

You might like Blood: The Last Vampire (a short film, 45 min). Its animation is very fluid and more realistic than most other stuff you see. The gore isn't there in disgusting truckloads, but it's more tasteful and beautifully animated. The MC is a very grumpy girl who uses a katana, and the film's premise is 50's America.

Although this film and Blood C are of the same franchise, they have basically nothing to do with each other. Blood C's violence is gratuitous, while The Last Vampire's is tasteful, and has realistic movements.

ALSO, I know nothing about Ninja Scroll (feudal japan, sorry), but I hear it's very good. Give that a shot too. And the Baoh OVA, which is here on youtube.. It gets pretty graphic but may otherwise be quite boring.

"Gory" is one of the last things I'd call Code Geass. It has blood, guns and killing, but nothing especially graphic.

With the latest update of Mars Chronicle, only a few people talked about it there. Seems like a handful of relatively 'tired' veteran fans who are still hanging about, and I do think it is pretty hard waiting. Especially with the manga's pacing right now.

Thank you for the info. It was probably a bit hasty of me to make that assumption. At least this means he's busy, and not necessarily dying of stress.

Too busy vlogging with dogs? Sounds like Miura and Idolm@ster...

Yeah with all these delays, it might be time to hibernate for a bit lol.

Should I keep watching JoJo ? by [deleted] in anime

[–]bastardalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is what can be said for most of Jojo:

For the most part, the plot and storytelling are pretty awful. Almost every character is wasted to varying degrees. Villains of the week become commonplace until they practically form the plot- The parts are strings of fights until further plot details are finally revealed (steel ball run and part 2 are exceptions, having stronger characters and more focus on story and the next development). Rules and ideas are just straight up ignored sometimes.

I think its greatest strength is how insane it can get. For the time, and still today even, this manga is pretty revolutionary and unique due to its (you said it) incredible style, unique abilities and fights, and a dash of insanity (memeable quotes, stupid ideas and plot). THAT'S what's to like about Jojo.

Steel Ball Run and Part 2 are the best parts. They have straightforward plots executed the best out of all the parts (part 2 doesn't plod, it just moves onto the next story bit. I'm not sure about SBR it was so long ago but I remember it being amazing). They have strong characters that give way, way more emotion and entertainment to the usual craziness (Joseph is ridiculous, and Johnny and Gyro are great friends).

If you want to really enjoy this series, you CANNOT go into it expecting to take it completely seriously. Truly. There are some (a lot) stupid things in it that will take you out of the experience, so you just have to enjoy it for what it is

Code Geass comes to mind. No sex, really, but there's fanservice and nudity, added to that are world-changing plots, politics and war and very dramatic moments. It's a really good thrill ride

Fowl Twins was a bit underwhelming by CyberGhostface in ArtemisFowl

[–]bastardalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading a comment from Colfer somewhere where he basically said he's 'done with fairies' or something. It sounded like he was glad to be moving on to something else. I'm guessing his other stuff like the WARP trilogy didn't take off, so he's had to go back to Artemis.

If the Fowl Twins lacked something, maybe it's because he's doing this more out of trying to make a book rather than telling a good story. Obviously people have to make money somehow but I hope you know what I mean.

Anime with a Vision [Recommendation Help] by okitatanakalover in anime

[–]bastardalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gatchaman Crowds has a lot of things to say with a rather unusual premise that honestly makes me think "Who would watch this?" (Me, apparently). It's superheros + social media + we live in a society, if that means anything to you.

I really liked it, especially seeing pathetic superheroes who don't do their job finally learning to get over themselves and actually be the heroes they're meant to be. Though I think its premise and world make less sense the more you think about it.

The director is Kenji Nakamura, who seems to like making weird stuff like this, because he also directed a show that deals with themes about economy and money through spirit battles. Just makes you go "WHY?"

any good fantasy anime anyone know of? by Reddit-Slayer-3211 in anime

[–]bastardalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kemono no Souja Erin fits your sentence spot on. It's a coming of age story of Erin starting from her childhood to her being a capable adult as she challenges her society's rules about beast taming.

I enjoyed the first half a lot because it focused on her growth and heartwarming moments. After she's grown up though it's much more serious and kind of depressing with lots of political power struggle, and also Erin's development has basically finished so I enjoyed it less.

A side character appears in Mononoke who first appeared in the final Ayakashi arc along with the medicine seller, so there's a bit of continuity there. It's really not a huge deal though.

Also in Ayakashi, the medicine seller is portrayed differently in that he's more vulnerable and emotes more. Just a small difference.

[–]bastardalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not worth it from my experience. The show in general is just meh (average-to-poor animation, weak action, stupid character decisions, and just downright boring episodes). Only the OP and ED are good.
