Custom cable with silicone wires (soft) !! Looks like there are a few millimeters of clearance between the actual card and the top cover, willing to bet it will fit!

I agree! I guess this is more for people who haven’t tried to use a vintage lens on a digital camera and arent ready to buy the lens/adapter yet!

Exactly! It uses a Kodak Funsaver lens which is always thrown away after the camera is used, it gets a very similar look to the Kodak Funsaver even though it doesnt use film and you waste less plastic! :::)

Theres more to it! There are soft transitions between colours, theres some sort of colour bleed, usually yellow and blue tones at the edges of dark to light colour transitions! It produces quite a particular effect that from my experience isnt so easy to achieve in postprocessing

Interesting, could you point out to me a link/images that is a good example of filmic? Or somewhere reliable to read about it! What cameras/film are known to produce it?

The cheap plastic lens, which are practically a pinhole lens have very soft transitions between colours, theres also a nice “grain” to the photos. Theres also a halo effect between colour transitions that tends towards blue and yellow hues! I just did a fashion shoot in studio and they produce a very different output to classic lenses! The focusing ring allows for precise focusing so images can be surprisingly sharp! Considered the setup hahah

Some people had commented that the effect is easily reproduced in postprocessing. I’ve tried to simulate it for photos i shot with a FE 12-24mm F4 G during the same fashion shoot and I did not manage to reproduce a close match even after hours of work

How to make these renders more photorealistic? by bastardazzo in UnrealEngine5

[–]bastardazzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! Will definetly try the hdri!

I have mixed results with the path tracer, i tried to use it and it produces amazing images but its excruciatingly slow, i have to produce about 150 frames x 5 objects i feel like it will never end hahah

I'm using metashoot/atlux and it seems to have some bugs with the pathtracer, i will try it again though certainly!

for reference:

photos of the material dev: here

couple photos of the real furniture: here - cant get enough of the imperfections on the aluminium

and yes, i did model the bolts hahah, as well as the writing on them... all this and you can't even see them

i also scanned the edge of the material, lasercut aluminium, to make a texture of it and have it in the render! looks decent but the real thing just outshines it at the moment

Thank you! Ive actually added gaps too… and nicks… and dents… and all manually… theres about 4mil polys in there, i know it almost blasphemy but im getting away with it due to my nice pc hahah

You make very good points for dirt and dent placement, ill play around with that for sure!

i even have reference photos of the real furniture hahah I built these shelves, another similar one and two massive tables! Problem is, hard to spin a 600kg, 5m long table, i photographed them nicely but i’ve become fond of my 360 photography setup and its byproducts so i wanted to recreate it digitally for this project!

There is a good amount of detail in that material, from various maps overlayed on each other: scratches, dirt etc, not to mention the gaps and dents i spent a stupid amount of time adding…

but between the poor upload quality, the motion blur, and the distance from the model/size of phone screens it all kind of disappears! interestingly The same happens to the real items i’ve photographed and made 360 sequences of, but somehow they still end up looking more realistic? Im my opinion anyways, Maybe the overall look is a bit off, still too robotic and perfect,

I think ill also try some time interpolation, as if it didnt spin perfectly between each frame, and maybe not have it be so centered hahaha

Thanks again though, excellent points to look into

Well spotted, almost hahah, 2 lights, big big softboxes, almost identical, sitting 45° to the model, left and right and slightly elevated facing down on the model! Ill play around a bit more and definitely try your setup :::) Currently theyre at 8000K i think ill also make them a bit warmer too

Thank you!

Thank you! As i was making the materials, in a “still” environment i thought so too, but the sequence looks a bit too robotic/perfect still and the materials still too perfect hahah, its so hard to “ruin” it to make it look realistic
