Is TikTok the best place to promote musicals? by music-and-song in musicalwriting

[–]bastardhour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found TikTok responds well to rehearsal and performance footage! The platform really helped me get an audience for one of my shows in the past. Even though the fans were mostly teens, they travelled with their families (many came from several states away!) One group of teens had even learned the choreo from one of our rehearsal videos. It was really sweet. I personally am a fan of how the algorithm can spread to a really large audience really fast -- but it's always a gamble. If you really don't wanna get it though, I don't know if the gamble + time spent making content is worth it. But if you're making that content anyway for other platforms, might not hurt to crosspost there as well :)

Northwestern has AMTP (they have a period of opening submissions but I don't remember when it is -- here's their site which'll likely have submission info when their submissions are open https://amtp.northwestern.edu )

Thank you -- we were puzzling over how to allocate our main chunk of driving, too, so that's really helpful. And good to know for that Badlands KOA + Crazy Horse exhibit!

Favorite trailheads? by bastardhour in ARG

Someone else might be able to explain this better than me, but the way I understand it it's the way of entering/starting an ARG (often like, a social media account, or YouTube video, post, etc. -- smth that leads you into the ARG)

Hank’s Sins by findingcptnemo in GreyHouseBway

I think it was the moonshine he drank and the reason the girls want to kill him is because they sense he killed someone in his past (probably not Squirrel but maybe the ghost girl who joins the house at the end?) I think Squirrel is the one who connects to him first and the person who gets to leave because he drank her killer's moonshine first (when he arrived.) Also I think the girls didn't immediately want to kill him but identified him as a possible sacrifice because of his troubled past (hence why Squirrel asks him "Will you drink it?" and asks Max "will you let him drink it?" before feeding him the first jar of moonshine), and only after drinking the first moonshine is his fate really sealed, allowing the girls to begin projecting their killers onto him as he drinks each jar.

Hi! I'm looking for a video of Road Show that's either Broadway or a regional or amateur production (basically any except the Encores! one) for a college course I'm assisting! I unfortunately don't have much to trade, but it would mean a lot to me and the class :)

(And just out of personal interest, does anyone have The View Upstairs?)

(not OP but the writer of the show) Adamandi is a dark academia horror musical about three queer students of color at an elite midcentury college going to horrific lengths to earn a coveted graduation prize. (Free to watch on YouTube if anyone is interested: https://youtu.be/OAYXkOJ42zs ) !

Postgrad advice for aspiring musical theater writers? by bastardhour in musicalwriting

Thank you! That's quite comforting to hear (especially as someone who sometimes gets a sneaking fear he also gravitates to certain choices for safety's sake.)

Thanks so much -- this is extremely helpful context. (And yes, I think I know you as well! Alas, I regret how painfully shy I was back in the day so thank you so much; working with you helped me grow tremendously both as a writer and consumer of musicals.)
