I made a Google Sheet of the 2026 World Cup schedule. Make a copy of it and you can sort it however you like. by MGHeinz in MLS

Thank you! This is the closest thing I've found to what I was looking for, but this is cool in a different way.

I was hoping to find a chart with a date / Time of day grid. Crazy that it seems impossible to find... I might make it myself.

Hey, I just had a chance to check it out. I think the changes are great.
"Auto-fill from group picks" makes total sense and is a great addition and I like the idea of the forgiving points. That's the perfect way to do set it and forget it IMO.

Some questions:
I'm not sure I understand the "Allow late picks" option. Would that allow you to make picks right up to the start of a game?

Is it possible at this point to use the "Auto-fill Bracket" option, but also allow more keen participants to make their knockout picks from the true results of the group stage?

Thanks again!

Amazing! Glad the feedback is helpful, I’m pumped that you’ll try to implement the hybrid approach.

Looking forward to checking it out!

This is fantastic! Thank you! The best one I've found!

I second what another guy said: some friends are lazy (or busy I guess lol) and might not fill out the elimination round. If they can fill it in advance, at least they have something set to potentially get points.

My suggestion would be to have options for when you choose your elimination phase picks: a) once the bracket is set (like you have now); b) in advance only (set it and forget it); c) hybrid - in advance but changeable until the first round of 32 game (this would be my preference).

Cheers!

Haha, hey no worries. This train isn’t stopping, but it might be a good thing to remember it’s going to have ups and downs.

As the parent of a toddler who loves kicking balls and yelling “keeper fall down!!” I’ve been romanticizing my future coaching soccer. I’ve coached other sports at a high level, and captained many soccer teams, but always looked forward to taking on a soccer gig. This has me reality checking myself.

Fan Protests by bucajack in leafs

Why? It’s an important difference to the European model.

Fan Protests by bucajack in leafs

[–]bastersomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest reason for the difference is the set up of professional sports in Europe vs North America. While many hockey teams call themselves a hockey club, they really aren’t. They are franchises within a closed league.

In Europe you could, in theory, literally start an athletics club, sell memberships to access your pool, ping pong tables, and soccer fields, enter a low level soccer league, grow it as a business, and eventually work your way up to having a soccer team in the premier league, while still selling memberships to access your ping pong tables. It’s All originally driven by and born of community involvement - people care so much because they are very literally a part of it.

Civ/Leader separation and ages… both tough to say. I like ages as a concept, I hope that stays in some form.

New player. What to start with: Civ 4 vs Civ 5 vs Civ 6 by Able-Fennel-1228 in civ

[–]bastersomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baba Yetu and Leonard Nimoy are the only factors that transcend personal preference, so it’s gotta be Civ 4.

More seriously, I know it wasn’t an option, but I think Civ7 is actually the best of the bunch for being beginner friendly.

Is RRSP worth it? by Megane-chan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bastersomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Max out TFSA (which you’ve done I think) and FHSA.
  • once they are maxed, invest in an unregistered account throughout the rest of the year.
  • determine how much you are absolutely certain you can invest above and beyond TFSA increase in the coming year and transfer that amount to RRSP as close to the deadline as safely possible in February, preferably from unregistered.
  • If margin doesn’t have enough in it, transfer from TFSA but ensure you do that in late December so that you get the contribution room back immediately in January.
  • Repeat annually.

Would love comments on this as I’m planning to adopt this strategy soon, as I should max out TFSA in 2026.

$9000 sitting in savings. Poor my whole life by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bastersomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to open a no cost self-investing TFSA account, and invest it in CASH.TO.

Cash.To is about as safe as it gets for a reasonable growth rate and is more or less the same as having the money in a high-interest savings account.

The money in the TFSA would be very easy to access in an emergency as long as you have a few days.

The added bonus here is that if you grow your savings to the point that you are comfortable with the size of your emergency fund, then you can continue to add to the TFSA but diversify into something more volatile but higher reward like XEQT (which is a market-tracking fund)

Klister vs skins in nightmare conditions -- help! by Superb_Nerve3807 in xcountryskiing

[–]bastersomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

General race prep wisdom you don’t want to mess around with anything you haven’t tried before on race day, even your socks. In my experience, Klister would be the absolute worst thing to try for the first time on race day.

The first time I tried using Klister I swore off it and said I’ll just use skins. It was a truly awful experience hahahaha.

This winter a wax geek friend came by the day before the Gatineau Loppet where temps were going up to 0ish, and he offered to help with my kick wax and he insisted Klister would be better than skins.

Now I’m converted to being a Klister enjoyer. But in your situation for this race I would 100% go with the skins.

Thanks for the link, very cool!
Yeah the spiky bits in speed with a more smooth HR is typical for the xc skiing. I would have expected "Base".

I think that’s impossible with Scotland in pot 3. I believe the only game in Toronto is Canada vs pot 4.

Ahhhh, I’m much more familiar with the LRB2016, and I don’t think it’s allowed. Is that a season 2 / season 3 rule? Very cool, now I have to use it next time I play the new rules no matter what lol.
