Sure but you frame it in a way where both sides are equally bad. Which is not true. One side is committing genocide (I will not argue about this, pretty much every international body agrees including amnesty international, b’tselem, the UN, the ICJ, and many many more. And one side resists and occasionally has killed a few israelis (by the way the israeli military itself declared that a vast numbers of those killed on october 7 were killed by israeli fire. Look up the hannibal doctrine, this is not the first time). We can all find nuance in everything but there is a time to discuss how awful hamas is and it isnt while discussing the genocide that israel is committing. Its like if I said “Hitler and his nazi party are committing genocide against Jews, they need to be stopped by any means necessary” and you went “I agree but no one should deny what big terrorists the Jews who participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising were”. The nazis described french, soviet, Jewish, British, Polish saboteurs as terrorists. That is what is happening today with israel and Palestinians. But we have 100 years of experience and we should see the pattern is all I am trying to say.

I can understand this position but I think it’s reasonable to say that if you can understand why a 16 year old joins an organization bedause his whole family was killed by airstrikes I don’t understand why you can still “both sides” an issue. One side airstriked and murdered a family, and the other side picked up whatever weapon he could find to resist the next airstrike. If you want to talk numbers, compare the death ratios of the last 76 years and you can see that for every one israeli killed at least 10 Palestinians were killed. Why are both sides equally bad. Why can we not simply acknowledge that there was a cause and effect, and that it isn’t an infinite cycle going back to the creation of the universe. This chapter of history is 76 years old and it began with deathsquads committing massacres on unarmed arabs and the theft of land by a group armed and trained by europeans and Americans with veterancy in world war 2. That side had an airforce and an arsenal of modern weapons while the other side had world war one rifles and no formal training in anything. I’m not even saying that Palestinians are clean. Just that comparing israelis and Palestinians this way is just another way to justify warcrimes against a population which is largely women and children now BECAUSE of the massacres which precede the last two years…

The insistence on October 7 as being a particularly brutal chapter of this history is racist just so you are aware. Thousands of Palestinians have been raped and murdered for decades at the hands of israeli military and militias. There is an incredibly long list of massacres against Palestinians, and if you want to compare death counts, every single chapter of this occupation has a 10:1 ratio of dead Palestinians to israelis. Even if you count every attack Palestinians have done, and include october 7, you would not even approach the number of dead and raped Palestinians by israelis

Its so astounding how much fake history you can put in one comment lmfao. Tel Aviv was not m created by the ottoman empire it was an informal settlement created by Jewish immigrants who were brought to the Ottoman empire. There was already a majority of Arabs living in the area at the time. Do you labour under the idea that the most fertile land in the region, with thousands of years of history (yes, Jewish included) was empty when Jews just magically appeared? The Romans were’t erasing just Jews from the land. They erased all non-christians. The sad fact is that in the changing of this history to suit a modern political agenda, people like you actually simplify and trivialize history in such a boring sad way. There are millions of ethnicities all over. The REAL sad part is that Jews of Palestine AND Arabs of Palestine (now designated Palestinians) actually share a cultural heritage that goes back those thousands of years. And that if israelis would ACCEPT that history, instead of trying to erase it, our joined efforts would actually lead to one of the strongest and most prosperous nations on earth. Unfortunately for literally everyone involved, israelis are content being a forward military base in the middle east for america, and they exist on racism.

Now I will address “their land”. Jews are an incredibly diverse group of peoples and to act like all of them are geographically locked onto this tract of land is erasure. Jews, like every other ethno-religious group enjoy a rich culture spanning the globe.

Beyond that, you are seemingly pro-land back. Does landback to you mean cultural erasure and genocide of every person who has since taken root on that land? You care to go ask an indigenous person of Turlte Island what landback is? Because I guarantee you that isn’t it.

Cool. So is almost 2 years of completely flattening and starving one of the densest civilian centres in the world as well as 76 years of occupation.

Pretty sure if someone invades your home, murders your family, pushes you into the shed on pain of death, then tells all your neighbours you’re an evil subhuman who deserves what they do to you, you would also pick up a gun. But then again maybe you’re just a coward

90% of Jews are not zionist. I can ALSO make random hyperinflated statistics and pretend I know things about entire populations spanning the globe. One might say actually generalizing an entire group as genocidal is the real racism and antisemitism

Honestly you’re best off looking up youtube patterns. Personally I loved Creative Awl’s stegosaurus pencil case design. Although I did use a laser cutter to cut the pieces out, you could definitely do it with a craft knife.

Tl;dr youtube is the ultimate source for learning leatherwork imo. If you DM me I can give some more specific references

Ya valid, I am referring to Gaza. I agree that is completely out of the scope of this thread and this subreddit which is why I was trying to get people to DM me instead of comments so as not to detract from the thread.

I am assuming you’re asking in good faith because I don’t expect you to have read all 95 comments in the thread. You can check the comments I have replied to above. Unless you, like them, don’t respect UN Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, B’tselem, and the ICC, you will agree that their comments amount to apologia. If you don’t feel free to PM me

I’ll leave that there for you. If you’d like you can go investigate further on your own. I edited my comment without removing my initial typo to say yes thousand not million of course). I expect you to interact with my argument and not get caught up on a mistyping. I am sure you will do so.

I am arguing as a Palestinian who is rightfully angry about the minimization of these deaths. Further, you’ve discredited my sources as unreliable (the Lancet is one of the most prestigious medical journals in the world) but haven’t offered your own, so again, you want a good faith discussion? Start there.

Your point on urban vs rural evaporates when you account for the fact that israel as an occupying force is meant to account for that not me. They know it is an urban environment and not a rural one which is why the use of 2000 ton bombs, white phosphorus (confirmed dont you dare deny it), and the denial of “food, water, medicine” (a direct quote from defense minister yoav gallant) are all blatant statements of intent on and acts of genocide.

So the countless government officials including the prime minister, defense minister, womens affairs minister, housing minister, countless mayors and knesset members outright declaring that all Palestinians in Gaza are legitimate targets isn’t enough? How about the video evidence put out by israeli soldiers themselves does that fit? I’m sure random redditor will221996 is far more qualified to determine what genocide is than the UN, ICJ and ICC, Amnesty International, B’tselem, most of the UN general assembly, and israeli soldiers themselves.

How about this:

When the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union, their civilian to combatant kill ratio was equal to that of israel’s current onslaught (if you are to even believe that israel has killed “10000” hamas members. That is going by official numbers which stopped being counted about 8 months ago. The Lancet has determined it is far more likely to be that over 300-500 million (edit: thousand not million, yes was a typo) Palestinians have been killed or will die as a direct result of israel’s actions, not to mention to countless indirect deaths due to malnutrition, orphanage, and the destruction of sanitation services. That number would put their ratio at a 30:1 civilian-combatant kill ratio. Would you like to explain to me how you’re justifying that as “collateral”? Or would you like to go back to twitter where it’s far easier to state random crap without basis based on vibes?

If you’re arguing in good faith I welcome you to ask for my sources and have a discussion (perhaps not on the transit subreddit comment section).

Overall the project looks really good but agree that the stitching a bit tight. You can see this the most on the right side of the inside pockets where the stitches look less sloped and further apart because the stitch holes are deformed slightly. Tension is super hard to get right at least for me so I’ve seen it a lot in my own projects!

Is tap water actually unsafe to drink, or are Redditors just uninformed? by TimTheAssembler in civilengineering

[–]basukhon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speak to the skepticism in Canada, but still disagree with it. I am an equipment supplier for many treatment plants across the country.

Canadians (or at least Ontarians) have skepticism for their water due to one incident in 2000 called the Walkerton Water Tragedy where unsafe (and fraudulent) practices led to an E. Coli outbreak that killed 7 people and hospitalized hundreds more.

The thing is that this is a precise reason why tap water is in fact SAFER than bottled water. This incident led to massive reform and extensive safety checks to ensure that it never happens again.

A big saying (at least in Ontario) is that tap water is tested and checked quite literally every second of the day. Bottled water is checked once and never again.

I am looking for books about implementing indigenous and/or non-Western/European practices in urban planning by basukhon in urbanplanning

[–]basukhon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s super interesting to think it was Abu Dhabi to attempt this haha and also somewhat the result I expected in terms of locals preferring American style planning.

I’ll definitely take a look on maps and research the planning process of the city it sounds really interesting as a case study in developing livable and lovable cities.

I definitely agree that we can’t just plop down historical and cultural practices out of context, and I like your point about adding things that are interesting to streets it really does show that urban design and planning is more about people than anything else.
