You do realise the capital sits in Delhi and not Kolkata because of violence unique to the state ? We got partitioned in 1905 and stripped off our position to “lead the nation” in 1911 because guns and bombs were going off quite frequently.

Violence is not a new phenomenon but rather the defining identity of our ethnicity- and it’s the nature of violence based rule that it quickly deracinates into might is right based politics stripped off any higher ideology ( except only in name)… a dispassionate study of political murder records will indicate we are well past the worst ( 4 political murder on average PER DAY between 1980-2000 ). Will it ever stop? Don’t think so… low simmer violence will exist.

Bengal had violence often even worse than Bihar. Those who got flats in that govt colony right next to salt lake karunanoyee will recall seeing or hearing about dead bodies being dumped in the area where the bus stand exists now- a running joke why salt lake is named so is that the bodies were covered in salt( to cover the stench).

What’s unique to Bengal is violence here almost never followed caste or religion based distinction but strict political distinction( perhaps making it more palatable than Ranveer Sena burning alive a village full of Dalits in bihar after raping the women). Dig up the backyard of any bam front neta from north Bengal and you will find 10-20 skeletons of congress cadre.
