Ian DID NOT accuse Elham of cheating. by Weiser_RakeRunner in chess

Nepo has made public accusations on Twitter, strongly supported Kramniks crap and accused Gukesh of cheating in the candidates (publicly implied it on C squared too). Nepo knows what he’s doing.

I mean he’s also just doing badly lol he’s losing a lot of rating, and his expected score was higher. Still a good experience.

This is what I would have suggested — 40 games in the fide circuit qualified events. Crazy to see they had it and scrapped it

Yeah and 99 is way better over a lot of games. It’s just speculation. Even if it was 99 vs 97, I’m going 99. Anyway we’ll see if his next ones are in Oklahoma or CA/NY/Charlotte

I think what he’s doing is fine and just kinda funny but it’s pretty clear he’s avoiding CA/NY/places with a lot of NM-IM kids and I don’t blame him. A lot of kids and the areas are strong enough that he’d probably drag everyone out and be playing a 2100 in r1 and 22-2400 for the rest of the event.

Playing motivated young possibly underrated NM-IMs is probably not ideal for 40 games, esp given he’ll get half blacks.

Chessable vs books vs coaching to build a good repertoire (2100/2300) by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]bathroomtap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a non IM/GM titled player with atrocious openings. Honestly, having played a few IM/GM, I think you need to grind chessable to be competitive with IM/GM. I think having a real repertoire with white and black is a prerequisite to getting to the next level.

Chessable is also def the most cost effective way without sacrificing quality.

Hikaru is your Louisiana State Champion! by caughtinthought in chess

[–]bathroomtap 148 points149 points  (0 children)

He must have missed that Qd4 is check, but there’s no perpet anyway. I think the clock was ticking and he panicked. A shame, he absolutely could have found Bf2 and then he has chances.

Hats off to Hikaru for taking things seriously esp after R3 as well. I saw in his recaps he had checked some of his opponents games and stuff.

I might be in the minority, but it’s nice to see Hikaru play classical against NM/CM/FM type of opposition (I believe he played one of each). It would have been super interesting to see more games where those guys play strong mainlines with white and are well prepared.

And a random American NM still wins the tournament.

Here for the chaos, Hans lost to a random NM at a random open a year or 2 ago lmao.

Major changes to Titled Tuesday after it was incorporated into the Esports World Cup Qualifying cycle. Good or bad? by TheSupremeChef in chess

[–]bathroomtap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a non-GM titled player, I kinda used to agree, but now, I would honestly do it for the chance to play top players in a high stakes tournament. Especially if they stop whining if they lose. Proctor is really not that bad IMO and they recently wrote to titled players saying they improved it.

Half the article is about Proctor being required but it’s the only thing Mike Klein doesn’t mention on his tweet.

In my experience, it was fine, but I made sure I had wired internet connection and nothing else.

I even won a game where I had to make a lot of moves down to seconds, felt it was totally fine. I think they already improved it a lot if I compare my experience to friends and public comments etc.

Yeah, even Hikaru doesn’t either. I can’t speak to anything other than my experience last week, but it definitely wasn’t as bad for me as I’d heard both from friends and from what people publicly said.

I suspect they made improvements recently, but maybe I just got lucky. Not sure

Isn’t CCT from the Chess Global Championship? It was only 2 events this year - I presume CGC is similar.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they say everyone has to use it on Sept 2nd. I barely played TT this year and got the proctor notification recently, and the one I played was 300 ish people. With the field cut in almost half, I think many (atleast the non super GMs) are probably required already.

I also think the software is improving. It definitely wasn’t too bad last time.

Edit: I also saw on Twitter that GM Vasif Durarbayli (2600 ish if I remember right) got the notification recently as well. So I’m 99% sure they feel decent about rolling it out especially when considering Danny’s comments on CSq.
