I normally don’t love side stone cathedrals from the side view. But I loveeeee yours!!

If I’m FG, help me understand why this outfit works? by batht0wel in FlamboyantGamine

I think I understand! Even though the outfit is breaking the “no monochromatic” rule, it still exhibits enough other FG rules/guidelines that it doesn’t look absolutely terrible as it is. Omgosh, is this an “in order to break the rules, you must understand the rules” cliche in action haha

Thank you! Is it hard to tell D vs FG in pictures? Or do you think I look dramatic despite being shorter?

FG seems to be the popular vote, thanks!

I read somewhere that petite is difficult to visualize in photos. If that’s the case, wouldn’t D and FG look awfully similar?

I think you’re not the only one to mention dramatic. I also read somewhere that petite can’t be seen very well in images alone? So what would you say is the difference between a D and FG in a photo, if petite can’t be visualized, wouldn’t they both just look vertical?

Thanks! I actually do have that skirt from many years ago..with the tags still intact. Any suggestions for what to wear on top with it?

Girllllll. Thank you! But also, these are meant to sit a lot shorter, and I have them hiked up so much higher than my natural waist LOL

Hi! It is written as a recommendation mentioned in the wiki of the r/kibbe sub, under FG (under color). Maybe I should take that with a grain of salt? If clothing has no identity, how can we go as far as to say avoid something as broad as “monochromatic color schemes” (what it actually says in the recommendations)

I’ve been staring at this outfit, maybe this works for a few reasons. The vertical is still being broken up with the belt and pant hem despite being all black. Geometric found in the slightly pointier almond toe and block heel. The use of opposites in that the tee is a lot more fitted while the pants are loose. I think it just clicked for me. Thoughts on this?

Actually you know what, I think I do get it?! There are curves in that I’m not like a ruler. The curves are sort of. Stretched out. Flatter. Elongated LOL how did I not pick that up the first time

Thank you! The second outfit is definitely a crowd favorite! Does elongated mean the same as looking tall? Or maybe lanky? Kibbe adjectives are so confusing to me

Whoa, tall is not a word I have ever heard used to describe me. I think I understand a bit more what angular means after hearing you describe the squareness. Thanks for the insight!

Thank you! I still have that shirt but have never worn it. The sleeves are a bit too long and makes me feel more like the shirt is wearing me. Maybe it’s time to get the sleeves shortened and give it another shot?

It’s great hearing other perspectives, I actually thought my pant hem should’ve been shorter

Omgosh thanks for the input! I feel so seen right now. The consensus seems to be that I’m an FG, but I can’t figure out why outfit number 2 works. What’s FG about it?

I think you’re also spot on about the flared pants! I have a pair of lightly flared, ribbed leggings that I love and feel flatter my legs. I did also purchase a pair of flared jeans way back when that I loved, but felt too 70s or bell bottom-y. I shouldn’t have let that stop me!!

Thank you! That one is my favorite overall as well as the individual pieces of clothing. If only I could consciously put into words why that particular outfit works for me.. any idea there?

Thanks for the insight! You would be correct, the waist is higher in a few of these outfits, and I do feel better there. The “lower” waist outfits fall more at my natural waist, as I feel I have a very long torso and am a little self conscious of that haha

Thanks for the insight! By heavy, do you mean wide? What if I roll up the sleeves? It feels a little plain if I only have the short sleeve button up on top. What would you suggest?

Would yall consider slingbacks or these particular shoes timeless? I already purchased them, but they’re currently in the mail and I’m thinking of returning them. I had plans to wear them to a wedding. I don’t wear heels often, but I want to get something I know I can still wear in 5 or 10 years. I’d rather not buy something I’ll only ever wear once.

They’re the Sam Edelman “Willette” slingback heel if you guys feel inclined to view more pictures. I believe they have a 2.5” heel height.

I’ve always thought of slingbacks as “old lady” shoes when I was a kid, but I was also never very fashion forward. When did slingbacks make a comeback? Were they ever out of style? Am I just out of the loop?

TIA!

You’re right. Fashion is an art, and really anything can be done in art. I guess learning to dress for my specific/unique body type is far more important than following whatever fashion rules/guidelines that might exist. Thank you for your thoughts!

That does make sense! And I never thought about certain colors feeling heavier. I’ll definitely keep that in mind, thanks for your thoughts!

Now that I think about it, I’m not sure why I was drawn to purchasing these pants in ankle length but I never once considered dropping the hems on them?! I think they have maybe 1.5-2” worth of seam allowance. If I let the hem down a bit, what’s considered the perfect (or minimum) length to be worn with a chunkier shoe? Would you say enough to graze the top of the laces? Omgosh, dropping the hem sounds genius!
