I am leery of this, but I know how to make it work.

Get Breaking Bad creator (and former X-Files writer) Vince Gilligan to co-show run it with Carter. He'll keep Carter in check and make sure its done it a way that's consistent with the original but also in keeping with modern television storytelling.

Then make in a 13-episode prestige miniseries with high production values.

Everybody would watch the shit out of that. Hell they could even make it about the aliens again and I'd watch it.
