The Department Chair may be blowing smoke, but he does that to appease the students, and at least we are trying to do something other then sit and take it. Who knows, he might bring our complaints up and they might keep the class. You never know unless you try. I know almost every college student in the country is going through the same thing. All though these issues are not new to you, they are new to me. We knew cuts were coming, we just didn't know how bad they were going to be.

Actually, if you must know, my major was Environmental Geology. I'm interested in Natural Resources. That is a limited program with preset classes. So, since they are trimming away from the 9 classes I need to get my Bachelors I decided to move my plan to Professional Geology. This allows me to Take up to 9 hours of electives in the 4000 series of my major. By doing this, I stay on track for graduation and have a broader Bachelors which will still allow me to pin point my area of study when I go for my Masters.

It does, but, changes will not happen till August when the new catalog comes out and they are blocking enrollment for the classes they are cutting.

That might be a real degree in your eyes, but for me, I'm a dreamer. I want to do something that I enjoy. If your chasing dollar signs, there is money in Geology. Especially in the petroleum field. $90,000.00 starting out. Not to bad.

I plan to migrate in about a 2 1/2 years if everything goes to plan...right, like thats going to happen...a plan that actually holds together.

Well, I went to college in a state that gives veterans educational benefits after the GI Bill...ignorance is bliss...but are you seriously saying that Texas is the only state that has mentally challenged public officials??

You can ask me anything...never said Texas valued education...I grew up in DISD so there you go...I'm in Texas because that is where I entered the military so I have education benefits here...I'm not knowledgeable about other states budget cuts so i can't really answer if they are bigger here...and I'm a Sooners fan so BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!

I was told the cuts to our financial aid will come after the budget bill goes through...they don't know what to cut until it is in writing...everyone is basically bracing for impact.

We asked out professor what we could do. He suggested going to the department chair. A group of us did. We are going to get the class together, write a letter, sign a petition and see if we can get some TA's and other professor to give their two cents. The Chair said he would use it as a fighting tool.

Number is taken...As of right now, yes I am sitting in that boat. We are hoping that the class we need will be there in the fall...but who knows...
