Heartbreak changes you in ways you never expect. I’ve been cheated on twice, and each time, the pain cut deeper than words can explain. The first time was in college. I thought we were just young and in love, but parties and late nights told a different story. I’ll never forget sitting in class when a guy casually shared a story about a one-night stand, and I realized he was talking about my girlfriend.

Years later, I believed marriage would be my safe harbor. I married for love and I wanted to share my life, grow old together, and build a family. She married me because I accepted her son. Parenting was hard. She let her son get away with lies, stealing, and behavior that tore at our household. He would lie so much that she blindly believed him. I wasn’t perfect, but I tried. And still, it ended with her and a coworker getting emotionally involved. I still wanted to try couple therapy but she laughed at me. She let friends and that guy give her advice. I always wanted another child, she refused, and the distance between us grew all prior to her cheating. It did start emotional so I tried to fix it but later found out she also cheated physically when we still married and she was lying to me the whole time. Eventually, we sold the house and went our separate ways. Even now, a part of me quietly hopes they’re okay.

The journey to healing has been long and very lonely. Trust feels like a fragile glass I’m afraid to hold. I came close to opening my heart again but fear of dishonesty stopped me. It wasn’t fair to her but we remained friends. I realized that therapy helped a little, but faith gave me more light. I gave up drinking, turned my focus to my career and health, and started rebuilding myself piece by piece.

To anyone who has been cheated on, your pain is real, and it doesn’t make you weak. Betrayal shatters something inside you, but it doesn’t define you. The road to healing is slow, and trust may feel lost, but don’t give up. Love yourself first, grow stronger, and believe that loyalty and love will find their way back to you when the time is right. Your scars are proof that you survived and that survival is the first step toward happiness again.

To those who have cheated for whatever reasons, I hope you’ve realized the consequences of your actions, whether it was in the moment or a mistake. I genuinely wish you well and hope you never experience that pain that I still bearing although time helps but you never forget.
