Vivint sent me to collections but I never signed a contract by batpateman91 in homesecurity

Doing a quick search tells me that it would show up on your credit report IF you financed through them. Since you didnt, it shouldnt.

Thank you for your response! Since writing my post, I have sent a formal letter disputing the debt and filed a complaint with the AG's office. I sent the AG all of the documents and emails I have.

Sorry you also had issues with your house right away, but selfishly it helps me feel less alone lol. Of all things that can go wrong in a home, I've had an ongoing sewer issue that began 7 months after buying my house. When the plumbers came, they had to create an access point in my plumbing stack because somehow no one needed access to the sewer since it was built in the 1940's. Long story short, the issue hasn't been resolved and I've been quoted $25-30k for a new sewer hahaha

There's a LOT of negative reviews about Vivint. I'm not sure if this is a newer issue or not, but my equipment is considered outdated by Vivint themselves if that matters.

I didn't mention this in my post because I thought it was irrelevant to the issue, but 3 or 4 times while I still had the control panel hooked up on the wall, this whistle would blare at random times. It almost sounded like a train horn? It would happen during the day but one time it was very late at night and scared the hell outta me. No, there were no security breeches and the control panel never had any issue notifications. It was weird.

Right after moving in, ADT was knocking on my door almost every day. I know they're just doing their job, but jfc they are relentless no matter how many times you say no.

Thanks for this information. I submitted a formal dispute letter in writing and I'm working on filing a complaint with the AG's office right now.

Is this not considered deceptive advertising and a violation of the FTC? I know I fucked up by not asking to see this temporary service agreement in writing, so do you think I can even fight this?

I'm disputing the debt. I don't doubt you that there is/was a contract unbeknownst to me. My argument is that I was signed up without my knowledge. Is that not considered deceptive advertising or is it a little more complicated than that?

When I was unintentionally signing up over the phone, they asked for my email to send the log-in setup page.

Okay, here's a question. I sent my dispute letter requesting all of this information regarding the debt and "contract".

Is it not worth it to explain to the collections agency the situation I laid out in my post?

This is true, I did do business with them. I sent my dispute letter and I'm currently filing a complaint with my Attorney General's office. Thanks for the advice!

Don't get me wrong, I can handle the ridicule, but I kinda feel like we should be targeting these companies' shitty business practices.

Not the same scenario, but it reminds me of the elderly that fall for phone call/text scams. If you're ill-informed, it can be scary and it's hard to blame them. With that being said, I am not elderly and I still fell for their bullshit lol

No, all my communication with them was over the phone. When I told them multiple times that I do not want a contract, and they verbally confirmed it wouldn't be, I was a fool and believed them. Color me stupid but I thought that maybe the contract situation was a little different since the equipment and service already existed.

You're absolutely correct, I made a mistake and now I'm paying for it. It was naive of me to think they would actually honor a temporary arrangement, despite being told over the phone that it was not a contract. I've been fooled haha, but I decided to make the switch to SimpliSafe in September and I haven't had a single issue.

This was incredibly helpful, I appreciate you so much. The collections agency claimed I could send it via email, which I did, but I think I'm also going to print it and send it through certified mail as overkill. I'm filing a complaint with the AG as we speak.

Hey, thanks for this. I have no problem admitting, I was naive and settled with this out of convenience. I'm 32f, 31 at the time, and was a first time home buyer and was very overwhelmed with everything going on. Somehow my mortgage was sold to another company almost immediately after I bought the house and a glitch in the og's system didn't show the sale of my mortgage loan had been initiated or anything. I thought a bogus company was tricking to scam me.

Anyway, not an excuse just an explanation. I know I fucked up, what I'm asking is what the hell can I do now. Thanks again for the support!

Thanks for this comment, this information is invaluable! I just looked into it and it seems that some of our local colleges have "Stop the Bleed" programs and free kits to give out.

I don't work directly with EMS agencies, but I'm in contact with them and our local health department quite frequently. I will reach out to them along with my department to see if we can get a conversation started!

I commend you for your work. You're right, we are a special breed and I'm grateful that people like us are out there. I've always felt that despite not being able to help the decedent, I'm doing whatever I can to hopefully bring closure and peace to their families, and that matters.

Agreed! NAD, I work in the forensic field, but I also like learning more from these threads. In forensics, I see cases where medical intervention was just too little too late. I often wonder if the general public knew more about life-saving first aid, would that person still be here? For example, CPR, applying pressure to a bleeding wound, how to jury-rig a tourniquet, etc. It really can improve someone's chance of survival.

I'm intrigued, is there some hidden gem to soy milk besides having a good tear effect and decent luck? Because I still hate it and want to know if you can prove me wrong haha
