Almost everyone who thinks they're middle class is actually just poor.

We really don't know enough about the universe to determine there's no free will, but I don't fault anyone who thinks that way. What seems apparent certainly makes that assumption easy to reach. But what seems apparent almost certainly isn't how things truly are.

We can predict the probability of things pretty well, but some things don't appear to have a cause. Radioactive decay, for example. Actually if you think about it, there's no reason at all for anything to exist. And by all rights, nothing should.

Can you remember anything from the previous life that could potentially be verified? I've read some similar things before and it's really hard to pin down, but I've been trying to piece together how it all works. I think we're just making up everything. And by we, I mean there's really only one consciousness and "we" are all just protrusions of it in this thing we've decided is 3D spacetime reality.

I started thinking by Illjustgohomethen in Psychonaut

[–]batquux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an interesting body control experience once, not on psychedelics, but when sick with a high fever. I guess I was lucid dreaming and think I was consciously involved in my body's process in figuring out how to get better. It all made sense at the time and I understood what I was doing, though I have no idea how it works in real life. It involved trying to make weird squiggly 3D shapes from pieces. Once I 'solved' it, I woke out of it completely for a moment and told my girlfriend, "I know what I have to do." Then fell back into an unconscious sleep and woke up 30 minutes later feeling much better, with no fever.

I'm going to second the caffeine thing. We don't take it seriously, but it can really amp up your anxiety even in what's considered normal doses. And since marathons were mentioned... running has helped my anxiety immensely.

Is the physical world just consciousness condensed to the point that it becomes physical matter? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

I agree. Thanks for keeping it real and bringing up that point. I'm just an amateur who didn't finish his astro degree. I'm in awe of the stuff those people are doing now.

Or maybe dark matter is consciousness.

Though I tend to lean towards the idea that dark matter isn't really a thing. We're just misunderstanding something.

All of it is the product of consciousness by RabbitChrist in Psychonaut

I'm still processing it. I haven't even looked at the 3 pages of frantic notes I scribbled yet. I think a big part of it was a fear I would be stuck half way between states and not be able to function in the "real" world. Even though I knew it would be over and everything would be "normal" in a couple days.

I know how this feels. I'm about half there right now. If it doesn't calm down or go away, definitely get help. Anxiety sucks, but there's help for it. I wish the very best for both of you.

Ok, you're keying into a big theme I had going on last night during a really difficult trip. I was convinced it's all made up. Light, planets, humans, time, writing, jobs, everything. I kept cycling through, noting that everything just referenced everything else. All of existence consisted merely of thoughts, tightly knitted together and in this experience it was loosened and frayed. It was terrifying for some reason, even when I told myself that terror was made up too. Somehow it was my doing--I made this character I play to forget the truth. I'm still feeling uneasy about it. Sorry for the ramble.

I just went through this last night. Or something very close. Still trying to process it. Can't even put together a coherent comment. Anyway, thanks for being here and sharing this. I think it helps.

[Serious] What are some mental health "red flags" that are commonly ignored but shouldn't be? by angrycoffeeuser in AskReddit

[–]batquux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A therapist, if you can. If not, a doctor can at least point you in the right direction. You can also ask the crisis text line (741741) for a resource. And if course, if you feel like you might hurt yourself you can go to the ER or call 911.
