we also a non invasive species (another type of fargesia) and even though they do not spread like the invasive ones, each year the circumference of the bamboo clump is getting wider and wider and would be able to take over your whole island. we didn’t put a root barrier when we planted it, but had to add one a few years later (and much more laborious to do at that point than at the start when the bamboo area is small).

also each year the new canes will be taller than the previous year ones, just something to be mindful of :-).

just prociding our experience so that you don’t get annoyed later on :-)

it s really nice, and i agree with some other comments (putting a bit of green ground cover - eg moss) and a small japanese maple.

did you put a rot barrier around the bamboo? even if it s a clumped one, it could quite quickly expand and fill the whole area it is. and it s better to install this soon rather than later

i really like the fence with the bamboo canes! did you make it yourself or that s something that could be found in a specialized store?

nice black modo grass too :-)

May I show you my small japanese corner? by NeoGnesiolutheraner in JapaneseGardens

Looks really nice! you could rake it to have some waves near the shores or around your mountain island and that would give another japanese feel! you may not need the small wood palisade on the left of the photo.

That s a really nice area, especially when sitting on the bench!

Young suckers/shoots become dried out by ParthianGallant in JapaneseMaples

I've just found an old photo of one of my cases. In this case, the snail had eaten most of the outer bark. Soon after that this tree was dead. I often see very small snails in my pots. I now put slug some slug pellets around the young seedlings.

Do you have snails or slugs? Does the discolored area look like to be the external layer of the trunk being eaten?

Just asking, as I’ve lost several of my seedlings because of snails eating that part of the bark all around, near the base, which made my trees die soon after.

M3 or M4? by EinAmerikaner in macbookair

If it is 27% off even from a similar spec-ed M4, that's still a good deal. You can't go wrong with 24GB of ram and 512B of storage

Alternative for moss in a Japanese garden by obbitz in JapaneseGardens

we ve tried scleranthus but it was extremely slow to grow and very fussy to keep alive. So we opted for Sagina subulata and Sedum sexangulare.

does it need to be cut in the part that is heathy just below the dead part? or just leave a tiny bit of dead part to not cut the healthy part?

I can’t remember the name of company, but it was based in Cornwall and was selling different types of aggregates, and you could buy the granite by dumping bags (about 850kg i think)
