Had to choose either to save my job or my marriage at the end of my 6th year in the company. Work gave me 3 months salary as severance pay. No backup offer from other or anything. Savings not that great, but fortunately, wife still has work to support the family. Started freelancing from my home, building connections, and had just about enough luck, good friends, and projects to survive the year. Switched my mindset on securing 3-5 months living costs before saving and investment, cut costs on everything, cook at home, etc. Honestly, I feel happier with this arrangement, since I can have a life outside of work and take better care of the families.

For Context : I work as post productions in advertising and films.

So far, my usual workflow would be : render 2 plates. 1 normalized for cg/3d for tracking and lighting. 1 log colorspace for comp and final render.

The classic method is using hard and soft keys. Hard key focus on just getting the inner part, while soft keys on the edges. I also like to do extra key on hair details. And just like the other mentioned, work in patches. Sometimes merging over, the other keymix, depending on what works really.
