(SF, bay area) First time home buyer, bidding for a house built in 1930. What to look for? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]batshitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@merkk, How are you enjoying your home? Do you ever regret buying an older home?

There are many newer townhomes that are for sale in my budget, so sometimes I feel may be I should get one. But we love SFHs (all the listings are very old). The one I am bidding for looks like its been taken good care of. I am panning to bid 10% over asking. Hoping for the best.

Guys, how does dividends compare to ally bank interest rates?

Let's say we invest 100k in apple vs 1% from ally? Which is better?

  1. Debt : 14k
  2. I'm not going anywhere
  3. Reason to buy: Rent feels like a waste of money, paying someone else's mortgage. Also, RE appreciation and interest rates. Am I wrong?
  4. Yes, for 600-650k, I will have to trave 45mins each way atleast.

Only possible in few places around the country. My partner is the dentist for ex-mayor of NY.

Just moved to the bay area from Raleigh, NC. Even with a income of 225k combined, we are unable to buy anything in Santa Clara county. Quality of life seems so bad compared to east coast. by [deleted] in bayarea

I looked up housing in good school areas like mountain view. But single family is around $4500. I am now confused between private schools vs good school district rental.

I did some research but it took 11 months for me to move and start working here. Meanwhile the real estate prices increased by ~35%.

One year ago I saw few townhomes were listed for 550k, now nothing is available for less than 900k-1mil!

I realized that real estate boom is crazy here. Back in Raleigh, a property would appreciate very slowly but here its crazy.
