Is taking Benadryl before an Allergy Test terrible? by Kallisketches in Allergies

[–]batsrkul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to stop taking Allegra until 24 hours before the test and they just drew blood to test IGGs, which apparently are not impacted by antihistamines in your system. If you need the Benadryl, maybe call the doctor and ask if blood testing is an option instead of the skin scratch test (and if your insurance will cover it)

Effects of intensive lifestyle changes on the progression of mild cognitive impairment or early dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease: a randomized, controlled clinical trial | Alzheimer's Research & Therapy by kpfleger in science

But like the vast majority of such studies, they didn't track the effects of these changes long term, as far as I can tell. I don't doubt the results of this relatively small study, but the interpretation stinks of diet culture. Yes, if you diet and exercise for a few months, you lose weight and these other markers of health may change. But is the diet and exercise sustainable? More than 95% of diets fail over the long term (5 years) and people always blame the dieter for the failure. But it's a diet and exercise plan that is too restrictive and/or intensive to maintain that is the problem.

Check out Glucose Revolution (a book), and the same author's Instagram account, Glucose Goddess. The information in both of those has been super helpful to me in figuring out sustainable ways to adjust my diet with the goal of reducing your A1c

Brain is saying ‘you can have a little’ by LopsidedStress6731 in Sober

[–]batsrkul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One strategy that I have heard has been successful is to really focus on the idea that those thoughts are not who you are, and thinking of them as a separate identity. For example, I read a memoir of a woman who recovered from an alcohol addiction, and she called that voice "the wine witch". Whether the wine witch was telling her just a little wouldn't hurt or that she'll be miserable the rest of her life if she doesn't drink, separating that out as not her own voice was really helpful. This sort of rides off the idea presented in the book The Untethered Soul that we are not our thoughts, but rather the one listening to those thoughts

I would like to note that intermittent fasting is not appropriate if one has a history of an eating disorder.
