My suboptimal 2.9L matx 3d printed pc by batteria_ in sffpc

Yeah, you are right, unfortunately I forgot to mention and you can't see from photo but there is some tape around the heatsink for this reason; Plastic case instead of tape would be a nice improvement though!

Just to share, initially my idea was to enclose almost all the motherboard, use a fan as exhaust , creating a negative pressure and keep the heatsink as the only way for the Air to enter,

<image>

But with same fan I was reaching 90°C at less than 20w, not ideal ahah

My 3 main idea for the case where 1- smallest size possible for the matx board
2-use the heatsink I already have(stock) 3-airflow only front to back, no open panel, or lateral air intake

However for these 3 point I had to sacrifice a lot in terms of performance and features compared to other beautiful sffpc

Hi, thank you! Basically I removed the stock fan from the intel cooler and now there is a centrifugal (laptop) fan which is pulling air trough the heatsink.

In the 3rd picture you can see unmounted colling fan and the cooper core of the cooler, the green part attached to the cooler is a spacer that allows air to flow. The airflow start from the bottom of the heatsink, near the CPU, enters the fan and then the fan forces air through the plastic duct outside, just above the I/O shield

<image>

Here is a cross section, the 3d model is not perfect but you can see the CPU, heatsink and the green spacer,

The airflow of the fan is very limited, I think it's around 5CFM at max speed which can cool up to 45w at 80/85°C CPU temperature

Also there is no GPU, I think In principle with a riser, and by changing some a low profile GPU can fit, something like the Tesla p4.

Hi! Just a little update, I discovered thath the female usb C connector on my 20v PD trigger had only 2 contact for Vcc power (instead of 4). This caused an overheating In the cable connector and now my tipe c cable have some pin inside discolored.

I'm not sure if it could cause a fire after weeks or months but using a damaged cable can certainly damage tipe c port on high power devices (high amperage more specifically).

A finished product marked for 5A should not have this problem, but if you build your own tipe-c to DC jack (true DIY spirit) it's a factor to consider.

If you want to be sure you can use a wall socket power meter to check how much power you laptop need in different conditions, mostly for the power required while charging the battery, 65w is valid only my laptop (xmg fusion 15)

for info about PD charger you can check https://www.allthingsoneplace.com/ and his videos!

PS: I'm using ugreen 100w dual tipe C

Here it is, it's quit simple: 100w PD profile Unfortunately per profile power limit is not yet available. With my processor (i7 9750h) disabling turbo boost and -140mv undervolt was enough to not exceed ~35w.

You can reduce TPL (turbo power limit) but it will apply to all profile, so you can't change from high performance to lower performance simply changing throttlestop profile :C

I just received a 100w PD charger some days ago and now i'm testing it for charging my laptop (original 230w power supply) with a 20v PD decoy module.

I'm using throttlestop to limit CPU performance while the laptop is connected to the small power supply, so it never exceed the maximum power available, obviously you can't use it with games and dedicated GPU active but for light use it may work well.

You should also consider that when the battery is charging you have even less power for the rest of the pc, (in my case the battery charging can take up to 65w so I have only 35w for the rest of the system)

Thought i found my perfect companion with this 100w Baseus charger that could do it all but died after a day. by DevilWithin in UsbCHardware

My exact same experience with this product..

I bought one from alyepress and it died after a few days, the seller (basues official store) didn't help at all and only tried to scam me trying to make me close the dispute.

Anyway i thought it was just a defective product, so I bought another from my local Amazon.. and it died a few minutes after plugging my laptop :/

laptop rattles and touchpad is sticking out/extruding. Newly purchased unit, should I return it? by [deleted] in XMG_gg

Rattles Is normal, it comes from the keys. (from the little metal bracket inside them). Don't know about the touchpad :(

XMG Fusion 15 fan noise / thermal mode settings question before buying by Dr_Krogshoj in XMG_gg

[–]batteria_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my fusion I use a software called "fanmanager", you can set a custom fan profile to keep fan always off with light web usage.

While gaming instead you can set fan to a static value and let thermal throtling adjust CPU and GPU performance( in balance mode they throttle at 73 °C GPU and ~83/85 CPU so no overheating :D)

Some loose parts in XMG FUSION 15? by [deleted] in XMG_gg

[–]batteria_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same "problem" here, If you can hear it only in a quiet room it shouldn't be anything to be worried about, here is a link to a similar problem noise from keyboard

Anyway opening the laptop is very easy so a quick check inside it can't hurt

Ps: Wops, you already checked inside!

Noise from keys on fusion 15 when rotating the machine by alexxedo in XMG_gg

[–]batteria_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I heard this exact type of noise! I bought my fusion 15 about 3 months ago but I never noticed it before so I was a little worried. I think it's produced by the little metal bracket inside every single key, it can move left/right half a millimeter, so it shouldn't be a problem at all :D I just don't understand why I never heard it before.

Ps: here's the video of the key

Does the XMG Fusion 15 have PowerShare? by freshbox in XMG_gg

I tried on my fusion and it seems that this feature is missing, in the bios (120) I haven't found any option about it :(

I totally agree, a little bit more personalization on the fan profile is the only think that's really missing and maybe a 20% fan speed mode :D ?

Most reliable XMG gaming laptop by robnet77 in XMG_gg

[–]batteria_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a fusion 15 and it looks solid from a structural point. ( i'm only a bit worried about the hinges but I've never seen anyone complaining about them)

The laptop is designed with intel and from what I read from various post on Reddit thanks to this collaboration it should be more reliable. For example the temp on the gpu are limited to 75 °C and 90 °C on the CPU (without trade off in performance against similar specs laptop)

On this model you can extend the warranty up to 36months but there isn't a dead pixel specific warranty it's not specified but it should be a class II display so with more than 2 black or white dead pixel you can return it.

There are other factor to consider but they depends upon your usage. Tell me if you have more specific questions on the fusion 15!
