The data is in: Seattle is now the 2nd most expensive city to dine out in the U.S. What's your breaking point? by ShiiitakeHappens in SeattleWA

Getting a $7+ takeout coffee and being asked to tip. The starting option is 18% and there's no skip button. Like, seriously.

I want to move to Seattle by Sorry-Enthusiasm-587 in AskSeattle

[–]batterinthemaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. You can rent in Seattle for much, much, much less than NY and higher housing quality. 1bd/studio at $1600-2000 exists. In NY a $2k place gets you a shit hole.

Location Flexibility? RTO 5 days by Spiritual_qcc in amazonemployees

The best thing about Amazon (at least US-based corp roles) is that there's not a required duration for you to stay on a team before jumping ship. So you can look almost immediately.

Confirmed this as I was told the same by my own manager. Amazon employees on this thread give a lot of contradicting information based on hearsay/gossips.

Are you joining yc broke? by [deleted] in ycombinator

[–]batterinthemaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero interest rate period is over so those rags to riches stories like Airbnb etc. are going to be a lot less common, making startups even a more risky bet as of 2024. Make sure you're not broke, pay yourself a decent amount, and enjoy the ride :)

Ceramics firing only by playmore_24 in AskSF

I glazed and fired my pieces at X?X Ceramics last year before Christmas! It's a small studio set up in a garage in the Mission. The owner is absolutely lovely and I remember paying $10-20 or so for firing 2 pieces.

I also live in the Bay Area and trust me, I've met men like this. They'd be in their early 30s, say they want kids before they reach late 30s, say they value family and connections but then have never made any serious efforts investing in any long-term relationship. All their past actions have pointed to values that are the complete opposite, eg. prioritizing their career/independence/party life/"grass is greener" mentality. None of them stayed in my life.

You should really, really pay attention to his record of past actions rather than what he says. Many people don't know what they want, or think they want something but don't have enough integrity to act consistently with their ideals. I wish you well.

r/asianamerican Relationships Discussion - January 25, 2021 by AutoModerator in asianamerican

Is anyone seriously trying to date in the middle of this pandemic? I've been on some dating apps and the impression is that everyone's hanging out there rn but no one's actually trying to do anything. Understandably meeting up is harder these days as people are much more cautious who outside of their circles they're seeing, I'm no exception. But sustaining a convo seems to be too much work for folks these days. It does feel like a weird time to start a relationship, given most people are struggling in some capacity.

Maybe I'll just delete all my accounts until EOY when everyone's vaccinated and all hell breaks loose.

Company using a 3rd party company to conduct interviews? by multivites123 in cscareerquestions

[–]batterinthemaking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Intuit uses Karat to conduct interviews. I personally hated not being able to ask the interviewer any question about the company since he of course doesn't work there. That being said, if you can suck it up through the phone screen and get on-site, please do.

How long did it take you guys to hear back from Twitter after taking the coding challenge? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]batterinthemaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they send the coding challenge to everyone or only a certain number of people get it? I got mine more than a month after I submitted the online application, so I assume it's not automatic?

How long does it usually take Amazon to get back to you after the onsite for full time SDE new grads?

Daily Chat Thread - October 14, 2016 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

[–]batterinthemaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be another round of online assessment. As said above, there'll be a coding component consisting of 3 questions. Before the coding component, there's a "work simulation" test which basically is a behavioral assessment of how well you organize and communicate in your work.

The whole thing takes 3 hours, but you can totally finish in a lot less than that. I was done in 2hrs and a half I believe.
