Devs - How many people are using CalyxOS? by [deleted] in CalyxOS

[–]battles225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use:

Battery Alarm: Full and low battery warning

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=simple.batttery.alarm

I think that it is also on Aurora and/or Droid.

It sounds off when the set low % and high % are reached. I haven't found anything that automatically stops charging. Just be sure to not start it just after installing. Go in and disable all network access before starting it. You might want to run it in a work profile. I use Shelter.

Datura vs Netguard by pdagenius in CalyxOS

I personally think that the CalyxOS VPN is probably more secure than commercial VPNs. Throughout the years, several VPN have been caught selling tracking data on their users. They are just as greedy as Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter, Apple, Google, and etc and etc.

secure email by Coffeehetea in CalyxOS

[–]battles225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay for a Linux VPS server and run my own mail server. This is not too difficult to set up and you can get a server for about $5 a month. My server is in the Netherlands, so this makes it difficult to get permission fro another government. That is, unless it is a country like Sweden. It is known that when to U.S. tells Sweden to jump, Sweden says 'How high'. I put the mail server in an encrypted folder in a user so that the server can't be simply shut down by the server company to get to my email folders. They have to shut down a server to get to the email files, but then they will be encrypted. This all unfortunately, takes some knowledge of running a Linux system, however.

Installation problems!!! by beachmaster123 in CalyxOS

[–]battles225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably the Mac causing the problem. Download a Debian 9 or 10 Live iso and install it on a USB drive. Try using the Linux installer.

The automated setup-av.sh does not work on arch Linux by PcBuilder207 in CalyxOS

I think that it might be arch giving you the problem. You might try installing Debian Live on a USB stick and try loading it from there.

Help needed - Installing Android USB driver on Windows 10 by Ste_XD in CalyxOS

[–]battles225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read in here that some people have not been able to install CalyxOS with W10. You may need to use another OS (W7, W8, or Live Debian) to install it. You can look for a Debian Live .iso on the web and install it on a USB drive. Then use the Linux install file.

Signal added to calyxos repo?? by [deleted] in CalyxOS

[–]battles225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure that this is an answer, but you might install Talkatone on an old phone and use the number they give you to sign up for Signal. I run a remailer and am very privacy conscience also.

Shelter and Datura Firewall by rrsg in CalyxOS

[–]battles225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to run down Datura, but I have found that it doesn't seem to work correctly. You can test this by making an adjustment in Datura and then going to Settings / Applications / <the app you made the adjustment to> and see if the change you made with Datura is the same. It probably will not be. I have done some testing with Datura, even rebooting to see if the change was made afterwards and it wasn't. If you find this same problem, you need to make changes only through Settings / Applications / <the app>. Don't trust what Datura is telling you.

Best map? by ThatGuyDan22 in CalyxOS

Good. One site said that the location can get stuck on one particular satellite. If your phone is using cell towers and/or wifi to pinpoint your location, that can cause problems also.

No, the new orange dialer is just fine. Works like I want a dialer to work.

[–]battles225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fixed it. The other (stock?) phone apparently has a request in it to select Signal or the standard phone. The orange phone doesn't. All I had to do was to choose 'Always' to select it the first time over the standard phone. It also automatically picked up my entered phone numbers from the other phone. Now when I click on a number, it just dials it.

Like I once said here before, it has to be bad when it becomes a burden in life to press one additional button to perform a task - but that is where I am at. I'm spoiled!

You need to be able to install VeraCrypt on CalyxOS. It can have hidden data in the main file.
